If you lose studs on gravel road 1 extra fresh tyre could make a difference
They have more tyre changes so no point carrying extra weight on such a fast rally

After SS2 there's a normal tyre zone with a fresh tyre set, but I heard after SS3 there's an extra extra tyre change where they can get two more fresh tyres.

Latvala not so much. He is lucky the rally wasn't cancelled and many € thrown away like Paddon last year. Pointless risking throwing it away at this early stage. Have to consider the different mindset of being employed by a team and not costing much if you crash, compared to funding your own drive.

Oh. Didn't notice that TFZ after SS2 :/. My bad. So yep, no need to carry extra tyre for that.
So first two stages today and tomorrow will have 100% fresh tyre and 3rd one is 50% of fresh tyres.

    No.

TFZ after SS2: take 6 tyres, put 2 in the boot. Extra TFZ after SS3, take 2 fresh tyres and 2 from the boot. All fresh tyres for SS4.

For SS8 you will have 6 tyres, each having done about 20 km of stages. It's a short stage completely on gravel. No problem.
