    Cyprus Rally 2019

With the heat in full swing, preparations for the 2019 Cyprus Rally are well under way. Our national rally is also part of the European Rally Championship, as this year’s seventh round, on the weekend of the 27th – 29th of September. At the same time, this will be the Middle-East Rally Championship’s fourth round of the season, making our rally the only FIA-sanctioned rally to host two regional FIA championship rounds.

The organizing committee has been working for months on delivering another exciting weekend of rallying action. The rally has already been designed to function around the city of Nicosia, with the Service Park being hosted at Evangelos Florakis Street. Both the Rally HQ and Press Office will be situated close to this street.

Representatives from Eurosport have already visited Cyprus for a briefing, but also to approve the course. Everyone responsible was extremely pleased, both with the progress and the course of the rally, while maintaining constant communication with the organizing committee. The heart of Nicosia will, once again, host the Super Special Stage on its streets, with a mixture of both dirt and tarmac, which was a first back in the Cyprus Rally of 2009. Crews from Europe and the Middle-East will travel to the island to determine who will be victorious at the 2019 Cyprus Rally.

The 2019 European Rally Championship is already under way, with four rallies already in the books. Leading the charge is Poland’s Lukasz Habaj with 94 points, with 2016 Cyprus Rally winner and ERC Champion Alexey Lukyanuk following in second with 83. Fast Brit Chris Ingram is currently third in the championship standings with 70 points. Our very own Alexandros Tsouloftas is participating in this year’s ERC, and has taken part in three of the first four rallies. He is second in the ERC1 Junior class. As for the Middle-East Rally Championship, the multi-winner winner of the Cyprus Rally, three-time winner of Rally Dakar including this year’s and fourteen-times MERC champion Nasser Al-Attiyah has won both Middle-East rounds so far and leads the championship.

In comparison to previous years we have to expect much slower average speeds on the stages, especially on sunday. Last driven in ERC in 2014 Asinou had a average speed below 60 km/h. Also Kourdali and Kapouras are well know to be twisty and very demanding - with slow average speeds. The stages in Troodos mountains for sure will be a big challenge for the R5 cars. Will be an exciting event.

It's a pity he couldnt share the prize money with Mareš after the finish was so ridiculously close.

€100,000 being decided by 0.3s is so harsh on the loser.

I see that Ingram's Barum drive made a big impression on Czech fans (roughly 1/3 of the donors so far)
