    Hmm, not entirely sure what you mean. I think the rim may have been damaged after the puncture. You just can't say for sure either way.

    If they were steel they wouldn't break. Try magnesium/aluminium.

    we see that some rubber still on a wheel and edges of a rim didn't touch a ground. So it easy to make a judgment that puncture and broken rip happen at one moment.
