That is something Eurosport did really well when IRC had the Monte, it injected so much more drama into the footage

Meeke's pace vs Latvala is pretty telling though - a driver on his debut rally with nothing to fight for, whereas Latvala is in a fierce battle for a podium in his 3rd season in the car, and has lost 40s to Kris today.

Jari just doesn't seem to have that outright raw speed he used to have years ago. He used to be able to beat anyone on a stage/rally if he was happy and driving to his best. Or it felt like that when he wasn't struggling mentally. Nowadays he just doesn't have that speed after years of being crushed by Ogier, and again last year with Tanak.

At least he's learned to be a bit more solid and get the car home though. Which proved valuable in the second half of last season to help Toyota win the manufacturers title
like i predicted in the crystal ball thread, i said that Meeke will be often the fastest Toyota and now after seeing him perform in Monte im even more sure about this.

pacewise so far he has been very impressive indeed.

On the other hand, it seems to me that the Yaris is a very good/neutral car that whoever steps in it will be fast right away.

they have 3rd car and have a driver for it... Loeb. Ogier reject that he afraid that trueSeb beat him and not give position. That why - no 3rd car for Citroen this year.

Yep, while impressive it's mostly telling on how the Yaris is.

We have seen Meeke vs Loeb in same car on tarmac, Loeb was faster in his first rally with that car on tarmac. Before that we saw Meeke vs Mikkelsen in same car, again Mikkelsen was faster in first tarmac rally.

Meeke was rarely slow in Monte in other cars (maybe you can count 2018, but he seemed to be playing it safe).

My post at pre Monte tests, relied at how Yaris behaved at dry tarmac, and today we saw at 4 stages, 4 times 1-2
yes at tests looked slower from Latvala and Tanak, but as you know Latvala is Latvala and you cant count on him about stability.
At one stage he can be fast, and at the next slow, with no explain from him why.
Tanak is much more steady, and Meeke was slower from him.Of course his pace is excellent, and very promising for the rest of the year.
