    I think it was that Michelin wanted to give R5 drivers a better tyre against Pirelli (7mm), as before Michelin for R5 had the same tyre as wrc cars (6.5mm) and were 'loosing' to Pirellis so to say... Just guessing

    It`s not just the protrusion that`s different compared to the WRC tire it`s a completely new tire as well though it looks the same..

    Meeke went of on a long righthander with a big bump just before. Hyundais jumped much more than the other cars. A lot of goof passes, nice shakedown!

    With the road order making so big differences on SD it's also likely to make big differences tomorrow.

    yes, but still I think the main reason was to give R5 cars a different tyre than wrc one - a bit lighter, bigger protrusion etc... - a better 'gun' in a fight with Pirellis
