That would be a total surprise. Alternative energies on the WRC were said to be discussed on a WRC commission meeting earlier in the year, but nothing come out from it. Besides, Smeets recently (last July) made a public request to get hybrids in the series from 2022 (one year earlier than the original 3+3 cycles), but theres was no (public) reaction from other manus to it.

Evans reported it on a bit confusing piece, althouthg Smeets clearly said at same point: "Maybe the answer is to have a two-year cycle next. That would give the current manufacturers another three years, including next season, but it's also enough time to make a change in the regulations”. Anyway, it’d be quite amazing to see the FIA and the other manus rushing things just to please VW, the same brand that pulled out from the WRC in a hasty way, not showing then to care about the series future.
