Hello all, I will be at the Nurburgring 24 Hours the weekend of 20-21 June and thought that I might skip the Thursday or Friday at the track in order to see some tarmac rallying for the first time. My initial plan is to go for the qualifying stage on Thursday and drive back to the 'Ring overnight for Friday morning, taking some Belgian beers and waffles with me, obviously.

I'm just wondering how the format for the qualifying stages works. I have been to WRC in UK and Sweden, so I understand the basic concept, but not sure if it's any different for ERC or for tarmac rounds. So if I were to do qualifying/shakedown, would I likely see the cars more times than upon the timed stages on Friday, as has been the case on those WRC rounds?

Thanks for any help and advice.

Every ERC priority driver will have two free and one qualification run. However it is not possible to say now who will be priority driver. In the ERC there is no fixed list of priority drivers. basically promoter (Eurosport) decides who it wants to have on TV. Expect 10-15 priorities. The rest (in Ypres You can expect altogether around 100 cars) can do whatever number of runs it manage in the rest of time after qualifying runs (I think another 2-3 hours of action). In some ERC events they even let cars go every 30 seconds to allow all drivers to go as many times as possible (during qualification it's 2 minutes gap I think).

If qualification/shakedown is same as usually take a place in the fields between the main road crossing and the village where the stage ends. There is a lot of nice corners there

Aye, I watched a video of Loix from last year and it looks a cracking little stage for a warmup - thanks for the reply.

Cuckoomobile will probably enter again a S2000 or R5 car with a potential winner in the car.

Bouffier is waiting for the call. Chicken-man can save his money for another event.

Looks like we could have the best entry list in years.

Entered or confirmed in s2000/R5 so far:

    Breen - 208 R5
    Abbring - 208 R5
    Tsjoen - 208 R5
    Magalhaes - 208 R5
    Pons - DS3 R5
    Verschueren - DS3 R5
    Casier - Fiesta R5
    Cherain - Fiesta R5
    Loix - Fabia S2000
    Lappi - Fabia S2000
    Wiegand - Fabia S2000
    Simpson - Fabia S2000
    Gryazin - Fiesta S2000
    Kobus - Fiesta S2000
    Vanneste - 207 S2000
    Debackere - 207 S2000
    Vizin - 207 S2000

Let's hope many names can be added... Add up a great field in R4/N4 and (most likely) the best R2-entrylist of the ERC-season, and it should be a great rally.
