Its not a stupid question. It is, however, a tough question. There really hasn't been many to chose from that have made it high enough up the laddder to get noticed. There is an up-and-comer named Johanna Long who runs primarily in the Nationwide Series for a woefully underfunded team who was regularly running circles around Danica Patrick many times this season, only to have something break on her car or get taken out in a wreck. She seems to be the most talented that we hear about right now. There are many many talented females running all over the country at local short tracks that we will never get to hear about because they will never get a crack at the big time.

Danica seems to be getting a little better as she goes along too, she's just not as good as the national hype machine makes her out to be. I believe she will be in for a real rude awakening running full time in the Cup series this year.

Thanks for the detailed reply. Much appreciated.
I will check out Johanna Long on youtube.
After my post, I did see another video with Danica in a road race in Canada and it looked as if she did very well in the qualifying laps (can't be sure because the race highlights in the video skipped the start of the race) but she was right at the front for a while.

I casually follow Formula One in Europe, and I can only remember 2 female drivers in its history and sadly they made no impact whatsoever. Hence I'm very interested in seeing female drivers in Nascar and other race formats. I can't see why they can't compete as well as men if they can handle their hormones (sincere apologies to women if I sound sexist or ignorant with the very last statement I just made).
