No, no... co-driver of car No 7 passed away this afternoon on the stage of Ben Ahin. Car hit a pole on the codriver side.

Uuuuhhhhh.
Investigation interesting to see. Safety always most important. What differs R5 from WRC cars regarding sideimpacts?"Reis vas pät pat kaar vas kut"

Terrible news indeed.
There is likely not much to investigate. Side impact onto a pole is one of the most dangerous things which can happen. Not much can be done about it. You can't take down poles around the roads and there is no way to make cars immune to such impacts, the risk can be only somewhat reduced but even with the most safe cars this type of accidents can be grave.
They have basically same safety features as previous generation of WRC cars. Current WRC cars have advantage of larger width. This additional width is used to enhance safety in side impacts by having stronger sills and enlarged side deformation zones (much thicker door filled with energy consuming foam).Stupid is as stupid does.
