    Rally Grouping??

    Hi,

I am building a 1.7 engined rally car. Simply for the fun of it... However i have considered actually rallying it.

My question is, what grouping would a 1.7 engined car go into and what specification requirements does it require for that group?

I know it must say somewhere in the fia regs but seriously... i must have tried umpteen times to find and read the relevant sections but thats like reading tax laws.... Nuts and bolts yes... not books.

    Cheers

What make and model is it?

    Fwd, rwd, 4wd?

    8 valve, 16 valve?

And what championship do you want to compete in?

No it isn`t, if you ask a question, you should at least tell which country you intend to compete in...

Since this is in the british rally section i thought that would have been a clue... so just for your own piece of mind..... Britian.

And I got the information from Chris Birkbeck who is well known for the Ford Puma's and someone from london who competes with the same car. I think they know what they compete in.

You need to be aware that classes vary from event to event (events within major championships usually all run to the championship classes). Eg in the BTRDA Gold/Silver Star series you would be B11 but in the MSA English championship E4 or E5 and the Scottish Championship class 5, 7 or 8 depending on number of valves and drive configuration. there was an attempt to standardise this some years ago but that initiative seems to have died.

The use of "B" classes, that grew up in UK non-Internationals, was irritating because it started when the only other categories used were the International GpA and N.
B in the UK club/national context was a "catch all" category for all non-GpA and N cars and was nothing to do with GpB, despite the clear implication, from association, that it was.
Almost designed to confuse and God help the historians in future years. As misleading as the wildly inaccurate use of the term "Gp4" in so many cases.
