Still looking out my photos for you, however if you can find a copy of World Rallying 4 then page 125 is dedicated to this car with pics of two engine set ups and the UK and German cars with text.

Feel free to set me straight if i'm making no sence i really don't know the ins and outs of the rally scene i'm affraid
I think you'll find it's the other way round. To run in Group 1 you're only allowed the bits listed in the Gp 1 homologation papers.

Group 1 was for series production touring cars, I can't remember what the minimum production quantity was, but there was some allowance for model variations. Group 2 was for modified or limited production touring cars. As an example the Mk1 Escort 1600GT (Mexico) was homologated in Gp1 and formed the basis of the RS1600 which was homologated in Gp2. Groups 3 & 4 were the equivalent groups for Grand Touring cars. When permitted by the event some modified Gp2 cars ran in Gp4 as the manufacturing quantities were lower. Group 5 was for sports cars, but was also used for highly modified touring & GT cars in long distance racing.

    Think thats what i ment
the XR6 package (KLM) was only homologated in group 1 the rest of the origional homologation papers are for groups 1 to 5 (NHK which wasn't an XR6)
I know it seems strange researching a rally car and knowing nowt about rallying but in cortina circles they are the holy grail, the only racing pedegree the Mk5 has

One of the reasons the UK project went no further would have been that the new Appendix J for International events was coming in wef 1.1.82. and both Gp N and A then required 5000 per annum production, the figure for the old superseeded Gp1. There was no new equivalent to the old 1000 Gp 2. The 200 qty for Gp B was the only new homologation the UK car would have a hope in hell of ever meeting.
As an aside to the post above, the RS1600 came before the Mexico, not after it. Ford got the RS1600 homologated at 1601cc to allow it to be rebored up to the 2000cc class limit. When they later tried to get the Mexico homologated at 1598cc, the FIA pointed out it was the same block so must be 1601cc too! That screwed the Mexico's International prospects in Gp1 (where it soon would have acquired an RS2000-type twin carb homologation option no doubt). Instead the Avenger GT dominated Gp1 1600cc...
