Pirelli win control tyre..AGAIN
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/82766
Wow, what a shock...NOT!!
Disappointing that a 'Premier' series has a spec tyre. When will they learn? Yet the other series allows many makes.....
It's not as if Pirelli are doing a great job; Argentina, Japan, GB 2008 - all unsuitable tyres.
Is there a better sound than that of Porsche engined Flat-6 ???

There was no choice, Pirelli were the only ones to tender.
As the article says this is just for next year then the FIA will decide whether to stick with a control tyre or open it up. AFAIK BFG/Michelin are only interested if they can compete against other brands.

I think it is relatively good news. They extended it only by one year. Now they have one more year to fix proper rules for tire manufacturers so that testing will not cost too much for competitors etc. Making rules in hurry is not a good thing.

I hope they can fix some rules about the tires. I remember alot of teams being dissapointed about the Pirelli tyres in the past and It put a little shadow over some rally's.

So the rest of the companies that wanted to give a tender backed off.
I guess they are waiting for the new car in 2011, lets see.

i can t understand why so many people don t like the single tyre supplier in wrc.
No differences at all from tyres for everyone.from Loeb to Wilson.
Would it be better if we had 2 tyre suppliers and the one of them had a better tyre for gravel?Same in asphalt events.I think that with single tyre supplier we can see who is better/faster much more easily, even with different cars.
Wrc drivers have no problems with that, even the french Loeb with french car without the french tyre manufacture, but spectators have problem with that?

Because single tyres keep many possible new drivers out of WRC. Many drivers all over the world have tyre makers as their sponsors and almost all of them can't enter WRC before of that. And what WRC needs now the most is more crews.

Mikkelsen's IRC campaign sponsored by Hankook for example. Also many locals in every event which are missing in last years - like Kumho drivers in Ireland, Yokohama or MRF drivers in Japan, BFG drivers everywhere - think also about Juho Hänninen. He is Škoda Motorsport driver and he can't start in WRC events under Škoda Motorsport banner because of their BFG deal. It's big complication for him as he must use car of BRR or Škoda Italia who have agreements with Pirelli and in the same time are official partners of ŠM. But they don't have free car for him everytime as Škoda Italia didn't have for Sweden. You can apply this to almost every IRC team.
