Renault Clio GT

Renault has announced its new car, the Clio GT.
The car has a 1.6 litre turbocharged engine instead of the 2.0 litre N/A one currently used on the Clio Renault Sport.
Renault says this completely new engine is exclusively designed for the new Clio GT.

After reading this I can't stop thinking about other things. I mean Renault already has a sporty Clio model (RS) and a very successful engine in it. Why are they bothered to design a completely new one exclusively for a same bodyshell?
May this indicate the future plans of Renault?

The thing is according to unofficial resources Renault is about to relaunch its Gordini brand like Fiat has done with Abarth.
And more to this they now have a platform to prepare new line of rally cars, such as the recently announced R3T class and -if the proposal comes into life- the new 1.6 litre WRC formula.

Anyway back to car, the 1.6 turbo engine only produces 128 ps. So it is no way near sporty. More of a warm-hatch than a "hot" one. However this leaves enough space for Renault to homologate rally cars based on GT model.
Full potential of the new engine is expected to show up in a future Gordini model.

I hope all of this rumors come true.

The Clio GT seems to have the same spec. as the Pug 207 R3T
But regarding the power of the engine the 207 would be faster :

That's not very much power, I guess it is tuned for economy.

My Roomster 1.6 has 105BHP without a turbo
