A few questions about rally
Im looking into modifying a Subaru Sti. I was wondering if anyone here can tell me what they think of the APS TSR70 turbo. Also While a me and a Buddy of mine spend few years building this car we want to get into racing right away to get accustomed to racing before we hope in a Sti. Does anyone have information on a good inexpensive starter car?
Thanks

A few points about rally
Hi JPS
You do not say what country and what area of that country you are from.
Car rallying has the potential to develop into an addiction so be warned car rallying is likely to have consequences for a person's wallet.
If your mother's or other family members car is not available for late night back country road recces then you will have to see what alternatives there are.
Have you joined a club ? You can probably have a go at codriving if you haven't already done so you can watch what an experienced driver does and get a feel for that particular type of car.
Are there rally driving schools handy ?
Club members usually know of cars that might be for sale even if not listed online, in publications etc

Thanks for the information. I'm From the US and will most likely be residing in the Washington DC area. I'm looking into clubs. never thought of trying out codriving with someone experienced first though, thats a great idea. as for the addiction i already have that. Growing up on dirt roads my whole life is much to blame.

Did you do your learner driving in the Appalachian Mountains or something ?
What is your show car scene like ? Would it be a better project to turn the sti into a show car babe magnet rather than taking the sti out and rolling it in the dirt ?
Yes you have rally schools in the US eg

There are a few books on upgrading the wrx available as well. do you have those already ?
Obviously the prodrive website is another place to look for the off the shelf parts that are fia legit.
Holinger is another site to visit if you get the budget to run their gearbox components.
I have read the vw golf was used as a rally car on the east coast are there any of those on the lot ?

JPSpencer,
Go here
http://www.specialstage.com/
This is the best North American Rally Webiste. The Forums are an excellent source for answers of any questions you might have.
They even have a classified section if you are looking to buy a rally car.
BTW To Convert your STi to Rally Spec will cost $$$. Competing in it will cost even more $$$

I believe Tim O'Neill is holding a road rally sometime in Jan. That would be a good start, either prepare you own car or try and navigate for someone else.
I guess head to;
