Dernie leaves Williams team
By Jonathan Noble Wednesday, January 31st 2007, 11:43 GMT
Engineer Frank Dernie will not continue working with Williams this year, autosport.com has learned, after it was agreed that his contract with the team would not be renewed.
Dernie, a former technical director at Lotus who also had spells at Ligier, Benetton, Arrows and Lola, originally returned to Williams in May 2003 as a contracted consultant to help boost technical knowledge at the team.
He was later assigned to help oversee Juan Pablo Montoya that year and played a role in the Colombian's challenge for the world championship.
Although staying on at the team as a Special Projects Engineer, a recent expansion of staff at Williams meant that some of his responsibilities were now being taken by full-time staff.
After reviewing the situation, Dernie and the team both agreed that he would not continue at the team. It is not clear whether Dernie will return to F1 with another outfit.
Dernie achieved his greatest success at Williams, where his aerodynamic input alongside then technical director Patrick Head helped the team win three world championships in the mid-1980s.2006 GO!

Only solution is more teams. Everything else is a temporary bandage that won't change anything in the long run.
