Gurney Qualifies 1st @ Daytona
Alex Gurney put his name in the record books 45 years after his father, Dan, won the first sports car race here in a Lotus 19.
Gurney qualified the number 99 Pontiac Riley on the pole for Saturday's Rolex 24 hr. @ Daytona with a record 1m 43.475 sec. lap !

Interesting how none of the guest stars showed up in the qualifying lineup. Looks like the qualifying duties were left to the regulars.
I'll be interested to see how some of NASCAR drivers do relative to their teammates."Risk sweetens everything" - Peter Revson (1939 - 1974)

Robin Miller on his column on Speedtv has it right, this is a IROC race in many ways. Truly have people from all forms of racing here...
