I guess I just don't understand the purpose. We can't have avatars, because some people might abuse them. So we get a reputation points system, which clearly, some people are abusing.
And whether they abuse it or not, what is it supposed to tell us?
I'd rather have an avatar of my car or favorite racing driver/team. If someone puts up a nude porn star, a bouncing boobs .gif or something really offensive, ban them... simple as that. But I've yet to be on a board where a rep system works or makes any sense."Every generation's memory is exactly as long as its own experience." --John Kenneth Galbraith

I have to agree about the avatars, it would be nice to have them.
You would think a small icon wouldn't cause a problem but they aren't acceptable.
(100x150 or 75x200 or 50x300 or 37.5x400 = 156.25kb, quite small really)
If you look up top, there is over 400 available between the username & the join date, etc.
A perfect place for a 37.5 (or 25)x400 avatar.2008 ESPN Stockcar Challenge MSF Champion :D

So far the vote is going neck & neck.
I voted for keeping it but I won't cry if it goes away.

I can give you an anonymous insult, but it wouldn't be very anonymous anymore :
