Is it coincidence The Empire's PR machine stepped in with those tests right after the Argentine whine of it's arrogant #1 and his Co - yogurt statement to clean up all the mess they created and take the negatives away from the Dark Side.

You are right, it seems it's for cooling the brakes (source VW during tarmac tests)

Think they should give the teams testing restrictions for new cars soon, VW seems to have driven a whole season with the 2017 car already...

I think there are restrictions only regarding the current season and the current car. And new cars have free amount of testing days.

IMO good on VW, they seem to be the only team with there S together, although Citroen are close behind. Hyundai look like they have missed the boat again...

About Hyundai: The i20 R5 is expected to make its competitive debut in the second half of the season, when test crew Kevin Abbring and Seb Marshall will switch their attentions to running a fourth new car: next year's 2017-specification i20 WRC.

so in the end of summer they start testing the new i20. If i remember right M-sport will begin testing their new Fiesta in June or July.
