Air come in through the large scoops near the side windows.

They remind me a lot more of World RX (Rallycross) cars which have a large fan clearly visible at the rear to cool the rear-mounted radiator.

Fans are visible at the back of the new Puma (and Yaris), but the rear of the new i20 is more sealed with just two meshed vents.

Road conditions may ofcourse vary but still, the new Rally1 cars are definitely not slow like many "experts" predicted.

Comparing data from different sources (onboard data logging and held-held radar from a spectator) is IMHO not a good way. It can be and most likely is misleading. I would take it easy.

Also don't forget that the speed of the previus generations of cars was given mainly by their cornering speed. High downforce also means high drag, i.e. reduced acceleration traded for higher retained speed in corners. On the other hand the main advantage of the new cars should be their acceleration with the help of the electric motor.

The final countdown has begun: Monte Carlo Rally pre-event testing started on Sunday. The race to round one is coming to a close.

In 11 days the entire 2022 World Rally Championship field will assemble in Monaco’s Casino Square ready for the start of a whole new adventure. And the final week and a bit before hybrid Rally1 cars officially land into the world championship will be just as busy as the last six months.

Toyota and Hyundai are first to return to the Gap area for set-up tests ahead of the January 20-23 French Alps event.
