To br21:
In short: it is tough rally as surface is gravel and quickly gets destroyed. If you are lucky to get high in the starting list - it's ok. Some crews with older 2WD cars decide not to participate in this stage as rutting prevents to get desired speeds. Last year organisers introduced a SSS on the city streets - so it was quite spectacular show, with high emotional energy and different surface (asphalt).
Participants: depending on their national calendars, there are few Lithuanian, Estonian and sometimes - Finnish crews participating. Some Russian drivers come with their own or rented cars.
Rally is a 2 day event (race itself) - Saturday, Sunday.
Stages are run only once (except for SSS) and the timetable allows plenty of time for spectators to move around and also - to visit service area. Some roads are wide, some go through forests and are bendy. There are few jumps (Strazde, for example, is as popular as Ouninpohja in Finland).
You can find timetables for Talsi rally of previous seasons from the official site
http://www.autorally.lv - look on the leftside menu for "Archive", choose season, then - from dropdown menu choose the rally. You'd be better off contacting some local drivers for more information. Would you, please, contact me via email or private message.
Hope this was somehow helpful description. And hope to see you and some other Polish drivers here, in Latvia.
