Could it be that Neuville has paid Gilsoul a fixed amount per year (rather than percentage) and once Hyundai - due to obvious Force Majeure, which still counts for 2021 in this case as the contract...

Good point. I guess Neuville himself is paid a full basic salary anyway, so... it's tricky indeed. It must be also noted that there are less opportunities for bonus money etc.

So was it Gilsoul asking for a raise or Neuville demanding a pay cut? Hard to figure out any other reason why agreement could not be reached between them.
