Any update if Spectators will be allowed? https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...de907fd01d.jpg

I heard that on friday, they will cancel 1 of the stages due to Covid. No idea which one, maybe one that goes through a populated area or someting.
Batea - Vilalba has indeed been cancelled.

Also the new Sunday stage has been changed to Santa Marina (route yet unknown)
Cais will start as WRC2 (under MSport).
Starts after the village of Pratdip
Are there any issues expected for spectators attending the event? Or just business as usual?

Entrylist.
WRC3
Emil Lindholm has done all his rallies, so he is "co-driving" and Reeta Hämäläinen is "driving", I hope she gets some points.
That he is not starting in WRC2 is not a big surprise. As it's much "safer" to do Monza (where he was great last year) knowing exactly how many points he needs. Will make ERC title a bit more difficult without Canarias.
There was some hope he would start in Fiesta WRC (see f.e. Dirtfish interview with Millener around Ypres time). But then again that would only mean comparison with Forumaux and Greensmith.
In way it's also a bit surprising that Řstberg kept Catalunya even when Monza replaced Japan. As a driver surely Monza would fit him better. But Catalunya might suit C3 much more.
Gryazin back to Polo even though tarmac is probably strongest surface for Fiesta Rally2 maybe reflects his Acropolis experience.
Edit: Actually it's weird that he seems entered as WRC2, cause I also see him entered in Finland as WRC2 "scoring", that would be his 8th entry which shouldn't be possible.
Note that Bulacia is not entered as points scorer.
Camilli in WRC2 can also fight in the top.
Is that correct stage video? https://youtu.be/aTZtPTq1NoI
Anyone recommend any viewing points?

Main news from this morning. No Service Park access. No Loubet.
Route preview. New version of Querol is interesting with concrete and broken tarmac sections. Also I love the flow of Riba-Roja.

Going through the entry list and got curious. Can someone confirm that driver #59 Juan Antonio Castillo is same person who co-drove for Dani Sordo (whose other surname is also Castillo) in his WRC debut 2003?
In addition to RC1, some interesting fights to see in the other categories.
Ostberg/Suninen/Huttunen in WRC2 who may still contend for the title in Monza if they win (even if Mikkelsen will be favorite) with Camilli (and Cais less probably) that could cause them some troubles.
In WRC3, Kajto needs the win to take the lead before his close fight with Rossel in Monza. Not that simple with Pepe Lopez, the young Solans, Ingram and even Lindholm on the entry list.
And the JWRC last round (strange pick to put 3 tarmac rallies out of 5) with Pajari/Armstrong/Sesks. Will be complicated for Pajari as Armstrong wins the first two tarmac rallies.
Hi Jonkka, how are you? I checked in some old results, and Dani Sordo's codriver was Juan Antonio Castillo Ferna, whereas the current driver is Juan Antonio Castillo Fernández, so I think they are different people.
Edit: on second thoughts, probably Ferna should be Fernandez, but it just didn't fit in the table, so now I do think he is the same person...
And then I had the presence of mind to just look it up in the old Rallybase database tables I still have, and I had him as Juan Antonio Castillo Fernández all along in 2003. So it is very likely he is the same person currently driving a Rally2 Ford Fiesta.
Hi ya! Tjeerd, is it? Hard to remember old nicknames. I am fine, old farts die hard. And you?
Ha-ha, I figured as much as my data pointed at the same! That is interesting little bit of occurrence, what goes around comes around. A tip for local TV crews, go asking both crews about their first common foray to WRC. Thanks for confirming this.Quote:

Yes, you got the correct Kabouter :) I've not been following rallying much for about ten years - life getting in the way (change of work, buying a house, a kid), but sometimes I do look in on the forum I spent so much time on while I was at uni.
I've found a video interview with Juan Castillo from last year: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k0IbLqE47z8
Could be the correct age to have started co-driving 20 years ago.
And now I've found confirmation in this article: https://revistascratch.com/regional-...-rallyes-46259
It describes the intended switch of Juan Castillo from hillclimbing to rallying as a driver for the 2019 season, mentioning that he already had rallying experience as codriver for, among others, Dani Sordo.
That was a fun little puzzle, bringing me back to the times I did this on an almost daily basis to make RallyBase as accurate as possible...
Hey Tjeerd!
Can't believe it's you!
How's everything? No more RallyBase, in any form?
Where to check local weather for stages?
Hi guys! I see you're still around after all these years :) I'm fine. Life's a lot different now though compared to 10 years ago.
I've still got all the RallyBase data, but not the time nor energy to build a more modern website (with more secure code) and start updating the database again. If a rallyfan with IT skills would volunteer to do most of the work, I could probably get all the old data back online, but I won't have the time to add all the missing results from the last ten years. And with ewrc-results.com around, I don't think there's much need.
For a simple start you can use this: https://www.yr.no/en/forecast/daily-...gona/Vilaplana
when watching on the same day it's best to use a combination of webcams and radar for example like this: https://www.windy.com/-Weather-radar...41.376,1.689,9
Looks like some rain on Saturday, which would be nice. Catalunya can get a bit boring if it's dry all the time and who doesn't remember Loeb's 2018 win?
Yes, it is the same.

so silent.... its a rally week!!! :) any suggestions on a plan for Fri ss1, ss3 ss4 and back to ss6? I know its hard to predict how many people would turn up, but still: my plan to come to ss3 near Ermita de Berrus through tv7411 road and for ss6 through Barranc de Voravall - or is it to optimistic? :)
Things to follow in Spain besides the Ogier vs Evans fight:
- tarmac is last surface where Rovanpera doesn't have very good results (1-2) will he get it here?
- did Hyundai finally improve on (normal) tarmac for other drives than Neuville? A bit pointless though as both titles are lost.
- Solberg,(goal has to be to get to finish, not to post 1-2 fast times), comparison with Solans in older car and much less testing
- MSport and Fourmaux especially, tarmac is best surface for both of them
- new Hyundai with Suninen and Gryazin (again) in Fabia, Cais (improvement after Barum? or was it mostly "home advantage") and Stritesky
Yep, that was a very, very good performance in Ypres considering what he did to Ogier and Evans. He's still so raw in terms of wrc tarmac experience compared to his teammates and all the Hyundai's.
Monza wasn't proper tarmac, Monte Carlo's aren't. In Croatia he crashed on the 1st stage (a corner Ogier was inches from binning it too), and he took a podium in Ypres. Unless I'm mistaken, that's only the maybe two conventional tarmac events he's done?
so, can Ogier do like Tänak in 2019 and clinch the title in Spain?
He definitely cant just drive with his halfass speed this time, im sure he would like to clinch the title and he has superb record on tarmac with the Toyota (3 wins out of the LAST 4 tarmac rallies).
So in my eyes he is definitely the favourite, although if Evans can keep his Rally Finland momentum then we should see an epic fight. Evans definitely has to give his maximum again.
But the trend lately with the Toyotas is that only one driver from the team nails the set-up and the rest are struggling, so we will see who it is this time or will they all nail it?
Hyundais were 1 and 3 here in 2019, actually 1-2 even before the last stage, and they all had good speed on Ypres too but Spain has totally different character than Ypres. Dont know what do think, Thierry will definitely be fast.
M-sport will have their intra battle again, i expect Fourmaux to win this time easily.
and realllyyy interested to see how Suninen will go with the Hyundai in WRC2 class and Solbergs debut on tarmac with the main machine.
i hope it will be really exciting rally again like in Finland, with Ogier and Evans having a really close fight for the win and Hyundais also mixing it up there.
Don´t forget Pickems guys!! Stop time is 0830 CEST Friday morning.
Solberg driving with the newest car/chassis(#31).
edit: yes, chassis is 31, license plate is 51 ending.
