Any idea why De Rooy is there and not Dakar? There is no competition for him there. Last year there was Kamaz second team but this year not...
If you are from the Netherlands and planning a midwinter break, the Sahara desert weather (at that time of year) might be preferable to spending time with your friends in a flooded service park and stages/ liasions(with washed out bridges) during rain storms high in the South American mountains and paying more money to do so.

De Rooy just didn’t like South America anymore. He is going for the overall victory here indeed. Too bad.

Yes, Tomeček drives in truck alone. Mad idea if You ask me but maybe he feels bored after so many years in desert marathons :)

So Africa Eco Race is over and Tomas Tomecek, driving alone in truck, finished 2nd in trucks (only de Roy was faster) and 9th in joint classification of cars + trucks. As I was sceptical to his idea of going to Dakar alone in truck, I have to say, that for Tomecek was whole Africa Eco Race good done job. 15 minutes long video about his this years start at Africa Eco Race, sadly only in Czech https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5oHYot2n-XM
It shall be also noted that his truck is serial one basically according to the old Dakar rules from many years a go. Air-cooled stock engine etc.
