Day 2
✅
And under these conditions, it's already a small victory! P4 tonight, behind the #WRC leaders, it's a good position for @HMSGOfficial
and the “Manufacturers” Championship

We would like to be more ahead, for sure, but for the moment, we cannot
Well, some day. Watched Tanak's crash live and it properly shook me up, as I'm sure it did many others. It's kind of one of those accidents where the cause actually doesn't matter at all... Even though they didn't initially impact anything, the first hit into the field was horrific in its own right. We could have been reflecting a very sombre day and they, along with everyone who cares about the sport have had a massive let-off.
I wonder what his reaction will be. Surely that's got to have some mental impact, but I guess we hear about the mindset of top drivers in all disciplines and their ability to just crack on with the next one. Sending him wishes he can do that and get himself back to speed soon enough.
The positive has to be Evans. Let free from the shackles at M-Sport and with such a good car, he goes and nails Ogier for most of the day... what better accolade can you possibly have than being quicker than Ogier on the Monte? No matter what he does for the rest of the rally, he's made his mark more than even when he won in Wales. He's growing stronger in confidence and ability still and I would love it (and not be surprised) if he's running at the top for a long while now.
I'm one of Evans' biggest fans, love the pace he has shown and hope he can convert this to at least a good podium. But tarmac and changeable conditions has always been a strong point of his, nevermind tackling these conditions in a better car than the Fiesta.
We will have to see how he gets on in events like Sweden and other gravel events before saying he has made the top 3 a top 4.
But I'm sure everyone wants him to, and Toyota need him to as well if they are to fight for the manufacturers.
What shackles at M-Sport, he was team leader last season ?
He's started well here and I hope you're right about Elfyn. But there have been many false dawns when he's shown great speed, only to make a bad mistake.
The Toyota is a top machine and the team has big bucks so he has no excuses now. Time to deliver.
