Nice performance by Matej Kamenec in the 208 cup
So Valašská Rally 2019 is finished now. This time I wasn't there due to some other plans for the weekend but nevertheless it must have been a nice event to spectate especially due to the crazy number of R5 cars on the start.
Kopecký unsurprisingly won and won also all 14 stages... but aside of that there was a lot of things worth mentioning. There was an awesome battle for the second place (and victory in the Slovak championship) between Pech and Koči. Unfortunately the fight was decided by technical problems of Koči (likely differential) on the last two stages. Černý was mostly the fourth guy (finally having the speed again) but just like Koči also he had technical problems. He lost gear shifting on the road section, managed to repair it but got a time penatly for being late into the next stage. Mareš had a rather slow start but in the end he finished third overall which is pretty good result I'd say. From those not so positive points I'd name lack of speed for Jakeš, Štajf, Vlček, Béreš jr., Odložilík or even Grzyb. I think that everyone thought Grzyb would finish better than 8th (despite driving Fabia instead of Polo in the end). Štajf was quite slow with the Polo. He himself said he must get used to the car on Czech stages and also work hard on the setup for our roads. Vlček looked like he lost some speed with the Hyundai but maybe he will be faster next time. Jakeš had two punctures but even without them the speed was not there. I personally think that it goes down to the Hankook tyres. This time it was bone dry and not wet and damp like on Barum. Béreš was simply nowhere, finished 18th with the best stage result being 15th place! Odložilík lost 3,5 minutes with a puncture but even without that he was rarely able to set a top 10 time. Also worth mentioning that Trněný switched from Fabia WRC to Fiesta R5 after more than a decade and he was unable to show any speed. He finished only 22nd.
Overall except for Kopecký and Pech it was like most of the old classic names got very rusty through the winter.
Strange thing happened also in 2WD. Kamenec went into the penultimate stage as a clear leader with half a minute lead over René Dohnal but he crashed heavily and gave the victory away.
1. Kopecký (Fabia R5) 1:31:29,6
2. Pech (Fiesta R5) +1:05,1
3. Mareš (Fabia R5) +1:42,6
4. Koči (Fabia R) +2:14,6 (5 sec penalty + 1:24 lost on the last two stages with technical problems)
5. Dohnal (Focus WRC) +2:20,6
6. Kopáček (Fabia R5) +2:40,3 (5 sec penalty)
7. Černý (Fabia R5) +2:47,7 (+1:20 penalty and a puncture)
8. Grzyb (Fabia R5) +2:59,1 (10 sec penalty)
9. Orsák (Fiesta R5) +3:05,3
10. Štajf (Polo R5) +3:12,0
There was only one (!!!) retirement from the whole top 30 starting numbers. Pospíšilík (Fabia R5) crashed hard (crew ok).
