Re: Vodafone Rally de Portugal 2014
Does anyone have detailed maps of the special stages?
We are going for the second time now, but last year, it was difficult to find the right spots.
-
Re: Vodafone Rally de Portugal 2014
Seventh time in Alentejo and Algarve. Waiting for Fafe Rally Sprint too, always remembering when I used to go there in the 90's.

Fafe Rally Sprint will have a night stage this year, plus the rally will be held in the north in 2015.

Yes, although the first cars will start in the sunset.
A return was rumoured this season too, but finally there wasn't an agreement (with Porto's council mainly). It could happen in 2015 again...

I'd also be interested in some half decent maps. Attending for the first time this year. Keen to make the most of it.

What you doing posting in here? ;)
I thought you'd abandoned WRC for Sportscars....... ;)

Re: Vodafone Rally de Portugal 2014
I'm sorry for you but the only available maps are the official ones that you can find on the rally site. They're not the best ones, but they have guided me perfectly since 2007 :) .

Haha. I never abandoned the WRC. Lost faith for a few years certainly - but got the fever back!

I have heard it's quite hard to get detailed info. What's the situation with the car parks like? Plenty of choice or funnelled into one area?

There aren't car parks on this event (it is miles away from your home event). Although sometimes you can find a parking-like place, you have to leave your car on the side of the road. So there's plenty of choice depending on the time of arriving and how famous the area you choose is.

I read that somewhere today and I was quite surprised, but when I looked he was quite fast in Portugal last year until he crashed.
I am a little disappointed how much Hyundai are "diluting" the second car, it doesn't give any of the drivers a chance to really get their teeth into it.
-
Re: Vodafone Rally de Portugal 2014
Yesterday watched Portugal 2013 and Sordo was in fight for lead. Maybe in second part of season they'll put third car...
-
Re: Vodafone Rally de Portugal 2014
Today's news about Sordo in Portugal are old news. It's the same that we already know since January, which is that he has a big chance to be there. So until Hyundai's confirmation that he will in Portugal and Argentina there's nothing new.
On the other hand, Chardonnet driving the DS3 R5 here are really great news.

Also Tidemand will drive the Fiesta R5 as part of his JWRC prize?

Re: Vodafone Rally de Portugal 2014
So what is the estimated cost of a pass for shakedown, Friday and Saturday ? I know I can do Wednesday to Saturday for 150 pounds (inclusive of petrol and food!!!)
-
Re: Vodafone Rally de Portugal 2014

My friend, no pass! Neither in Lisbon super special, or the WRC Fafe Sprint (that I advise that it's the insane thing you'll see this year). You can come, and spend the pass money on our fantastic portuguese beer :P

 Really!!! (so what are the tickets being sold on the Rally website?)
If it really is free then I could attend, from my home in London, for less than the cost of attending WRGB. I'd discounted travelling to Lisbon for 1 stage so that on Wednesday after s/d I could try the Sagres (Specially Alcoholic Gut Rot Emetic Solution) and spend Thursday recceing spectator points. Arrive Wednesday morning and leave Saturday night. This is becoming a persuasive proposition!!

As I said in a previous year the rally pass avaiable on the rally's website is not really worth it, it grants you some exclusive parking spots near the service park and an exclusive spectator zone for each day of the rally. You dont need it to spectate and you can also acess the service park without it.

Thank you, I had a recollection that you had said this in the past. In which case I shall be on e-bay raising some cash over the next 2 weeks!!

Great, I hope it all comes through and you can enjoy the rally. And as said before in this thread the beer is great and very cheap :D .

Re: Vodafone Rally de Portugal 2014
Any news about participants yet?
-
Re: Vodafone Rally de Portugal 2014
So flights, hotel, hire car all booked for this rally. Will be doing Fri/Sat/Sun.
Encouraged to hear about the cheap beer. Only thing that would make me feel better are some decent maps. Might just be a case of following the crowds.

Re: Vodafone Rally de Portugal 2014
According to several reports of different drivers and teams, we can expect a huge entry list to Portugal in all categories. What do you think?
-
Re: Vodafone Rally de Portugal 2014
Yes indeed.
It's the first rally where all the classes will be in action.
Junior WRC
Ford Dmack cup
I think only in WRC it will be the usual number.
-
Re: Vodafone Rally de Portugal 2014
Madeira on Fafe Sprint too :bounce:
-
Re: Vodafone Rally de Portugal 2014
Is the crowd control still strict? An event I've always wanted to do, but heard some awful stories from other photographers.
