I wonder if X-Raid will enter more ALL4 MINI's for this event in 2013? Also, does anyone know if a DVD of highlights from this years race has been published?
X-raid have only confirmed Peterhansel as per now. Although, based on the recent interviews, another Mini for Holowczyc, with Felipe Palmeiro as the co-driver, is a safe bet.
Imperial Toyota (with Toyota Motorsport RSA backing recently extended by another three years) have already confirmed de Villiers/von Zitzewitz and Vos/Howie crews. They're working on an evolution version of the Hilux (including five-litre production V8, with a 36 mm restrictor).
I wonder if Loeb will be tempted to do a Dakar Rally or at least a European Baja or two. Red Bull has had a large involvement with the event.

Carlos Sainz with backup from Red Bull en Cepsa is also looking for a Toyota for the Dakar rally. he already tested a SMG buggy
Design of Hilux refined for Dakar.
Blueprint For a Dakar Rally Winner
Have I read correctly that Toyota RSA will prepare only a single Hilux in the full 2013 spec (for de Villiers/von Zitzewitz), and Vos/Howie will have to tackle the rally in an updated 2012 car?Quote:

I thing it only points out that De Villiers is the high profile front man of the Dakar assault
I was referring to "Toyota Motorsport’s two-car team that will contest the 2013 Dakar Rally [...] will also include an uprated version of the 2012 Hilux for [...] Duncan Vos [...] and Rob Howie".
oeps, I missed that last parts. yes it reads of only 1 brand new Toyota, for De Villiers
Peter van Merksteijn senior with Eddy Chevallier will be driving a Toyota Hilux of Overdrive racing in the Dakar rally
Are Overdrive doing some development work on the Hilux? Or will they race the 2012 version?
As far as I know for Dakar 2013:Quote:

Probably add to that list Brazilian Guilherme Spinelli, with the Mitsubishi Racing Lancer.
I know he isn't a contender for the win, but for sure he will be in the Top 10...
You are right, I forgot about all the ex Ralliart Mitsubishio RacingLancers:Quote:

There will be six Minis and three (or four) BMWs from X-raid, according to Sven Quandt. Minis will be driven by Peterhansel, Roma, Holowczyc, Novitskiy, Al-Mutawei (2012 World Cup winner) and possibly by Dos Santos. That would leave BMWs to Terranova, Garafulic and one (or two) another driver.
Why are there so many gentlemen in the X-Raid team?
Could Nasser win in a Buggy?!
X-Raid is purely privat team, and they get their fundings from gentlemen drivers to devellop a competitive car and atrack some real top drivers. that's how Prodrvie/Mini was suppose to operate in WRCQuote:

Another rumour in french media is that finally Carlso Sainz may partner Nasser Al Attiyah and Thierry Magnaldi in the atar 2wd Buggy project.
I'll answer myself: those Ovedrive Hiluxes are built on RSA Toyota's licence, and will have all the updates.Quote:

Brazilian Guilherme Spinelli will contest the next Dakar Rally in a Mitsubishi ASX.
It is an all-new prototype, based on the old Mitsubishi Racing Lancer. According to what is being said here, it was fully developed here in Brazil by Thierry Viardot (the same that was responsible for the project of the Racing Lancers and is now hired by Mitsubishi Brasil). The parts were produced here in Brazil and went to Europe to complete the montage of the car.
What I heard is that is a better car than the Racing Lancer, new engine, lighter, new weight distribution, and shorter. On the dunes, it's better, and has a better handling too.
Its debut was on the last Rallye Maroc. Spinelli won the first day and finished the event on third overall.
There won't be any other event for the car prior to the Dakar, only a few tests.

Does anyone knows when the entry list will be published?
Must see!

Aleš Loprais will start with his older car because they are not able to finish new Jamal in time (the one from last year was totaled).
This is interesting, am new to this site and happy to see some analysis of the Dakar that is not available anywhere else. I agree with most of the below mentioned
but wonder how the Mitsubishi could be lighter as minimum weight is dependent on cubic capacity of the engine. If it is the same as the Racing Lancer (4 liter), then the weight would be the same (Around 1850 Kg). Also, it most probably is not a V8 with higher CC as mentioned elsewhere on this forum as then the minimum weight would be an increased one.

Regarding the weight of the car, Spinelli told me that the car is below the minimum value. So, they can add some extra weight until the car reach the minimum weight, improving the weight distribution of the car.Quote:

They used works diesel Lancers in their last Dakar outing if I remember right. It was quite a disaster.
Yep, and after Mitsu stopped worksd involvement, most teams using Racing Lancers turned to gasoline.Quote:

Up to this year, main reason is that only a factory can have enough resources to develop diesel proto engines.
Now with new rules, Diesels are not that favoured, (I am not saying that are penalized, but in the past favoured) and gasoline bigger engines seems to be just simpler and more widely available.
In Morocco Spinelli was running a V8, in any video the noise is claerly a V8 for me.
Wevers and Van Loon Lancers (now called HRX) are running Ford Mstang V8 (5 liter).
