They announced it before the tragedy on Sunday. It would also again be a track rental with the ICS handling the promotion.Quote:

This is an occasion where the teams need to put their foot down.
F1 returned to Imola, but in that case it was only after big changes to the track, which isn't going to be possible at Las Vegas.
If we should quit on every track where someone lost his life, then we don't have much left.
But this track is NOT suitable for IndyCar... At least, not with 34 cars. But I'm sure it's gonna work out the same way with 28 cars. If IndyCar wanted a race on the new Vegas oval, they had to do that in 2006 or 2007, when there weren't more then 18 or 19 cars running in an IndyCar race.
I would like it if they returned to Homestead by the way.
If the new cars do not pack race and are also a bit slower, why not go back? Apart from the fact that tickets were free and the stands were still empty, that is...

The new car won't be slower, and it doesn't has to be. There just has to be less pack racing on the track. I won't take the risk in losing someone again. Why not make a return to Rockingham or Lausitz? Those tracks would be safer, at least there's more space on those tracks and the drivers will have to lift in the turns.
Boogity Boogity Boys!
Let's go Racin!
The thoughts of having a final event at Vegas is a good one, just not at the oval. There was a pre-race energy there from the Mayor, Casinos and public. IMO They need to work on that and create an event someplace closer to the landmarks that Vegas built.
That was posted on the 14th. I have a feeling things will be different after Sunday.
I hope it does go back. My wife and I were really happy when we heard them announce it at the track. We can travel and stay in Vegas for cheap and I think both fans and drivers need to "get back in the car."
If high banked ovals are the problem, then the current schedule for next year is screwed. It has several of them. I hope they bring back some short track ovals like Milwaukee.
Which equated to acres of empty aluminum seats even though for many the tickets were free.Quote:

Maybe California would be a better place to end the year. At least the cars don't run 3 wide.
Not again a road course please.... Keep the balance at least for a little bit. Except if they'll find a replacement for the Las Vegas oval (and then I mean another oval race as the season finale), then I'd like the idea honestly. Or why not going to the street circuit where ChampCar drove in 2007?Quote:

Absolutely, the cookie cutters need to be done away with until if/when the cars have been deemed safe enough to drive them - & personally, as "safe" as we presume the DW2012 to be, a full season of racing will just scratch the surface of its pros/cons. The current/expired Dallara had its faults for sure, but it was highly developed in terms of raceability and safety, and to a certain extent that long lifespan has to give it any edge over ANY "new" car that has barely any track time, let alone any race time.
