where should the dirt race be if they were gonna do that? eldora?
Darlington has to stay, NASCAR has ditch enough history recently. Its time they remembered where it came from.
To be honest i doubt NASCAR would have a dirt race these days. I do wish there were a couple more short tracks on the schedule. You feel like your watching them go round the same track week in week out sometimes. Crappy cookie cutters.

look at Bristol, Martinsville, North Wilkesboro (bring it back), Phoenix and Dover all completely different from one another and the racing is top notch. Bristol always sells out, Cali on the other hand struggles to get anywhere near capacity with half the amount of seating.
maybe add a dirt race to the truck series schedule, and make it a 26 race season for the trucks?
Bristol - top place - love it
Marstinsville - can't see the point.
North Wilks - only remember it from the game - great racing
Dover - love to death - so fast
Phoenix - not keen again
And yes all different - I only think of Bristol and Martin as short though.
And I also agree the California race wasn't great for racing - great for good cars, but agrree it could have been closer. Shows the yawning gap between the top and bottom teams mind.
yeah, those are tracks and Talladega and Daytona are the best tracks on the schudule, all those tracks have awesome racing, and are unneak in some way as apose to some of the cookie cuttersQuote:

Have to agree with the "normal" mile and a halfers being much of a muchness.
Pocono is different though and never fails to bore me to tears!
Personally would like to see one or possibly two more road courses. Would love to see them round Montreal or Mexico City. Always think there should be one road course in the chase too!

Most of the 1.5 milers lack character. And just because a place is fast it doesnt guarantee its inducive to good racing.
Pocono is a good track and in the past had some great racing. Nascar killed the good racing, not the track.
Fontana and NH should have no more than one race. Give one of them to darlington and the other to a road track.

and keep dirt tracks to the dirt racers. dirt is where stock car drivers start out and shouldn't be on the Cup schedule. leave the dirt tracks in NASCAR's top tier in the history books.

on edit: DuQuoin could handle 43 cars, but the pit situation would have to be addressed, the pits are at the edge of an infield lake (laid out for boat races by the way.) and to come back onto the track you run along side of it and have to make a sharp right turn to get back on the track and then of course a sharp left to get going the proper direction. ARCA had pit stops under yellow and it was something else, I can just imagine 43 Nascar cars coming out, I bet some of said cars would end up in the lake! :D . I have never seen Springfield so I don't know how it is there.
oh yeah, come to think of it, i remember seeing highlights of the arca cars on the dirt, but i'm not sure if speed channel has ever showed a race flag to flag there, i think show the arca races at more popualir tracks which i think is ashame becouse, i would like to see that race flag to flag
For the sake of Darlington, an emphatic NO. Actually, NASCAR seriously needs to restore the Southern 500 Labor day traition to Darlington and bail on the second race at California Speedway. One race is plenty. I'd pull a second race from Atlanta before giving up the remaining race from Darlington.

well rockingham can stay gone, harvick hated that track. but as for darlington, i dont mind a cal date leaving but i dont mind one dover race either.

of cource the brickyard needs to stay! and Darlington has better racing than some tracks on the scheule, but it doesn't really matter what race happens to be on labor day weekend

Here's highlights of the race I went to, and pitstops are shown around 2:44 or so. The lake you see in the middle is an oval lake for boat racing. The track could definitely handle the cars (more than 40 cars started this race), but the pits would be dangerous, no wall etc. I said on the other thread that some cars would end up in the lake, well that would be aweful because they would have to take out some crews to do so.
This is isn't a moral dilemma. This is a question that deserves burying. Getting rid of Darlington is sacreligious and I have no desire to see the COT on dirt....
Andrew, your question is purely hypothetical but I will answer it, NO, getting rid of the Brickyard isn't an option to get a race back on Labor Day.
Lets face the reality though, if Darlington was to race on Labor day, that date wouldn't come from a place like the Brickyard, it would likely come from Fontana, or possibly Atlanta. That said, it would most likely have to come from an independent (Dover or Pocono) or ISC track because SMI will not give up a date for any of their tracks. Bruton Smith is still trying to scheme a way to get another date to put in Kentucky. There is no way in hell they will get a date away from him to put anywhere that isn't one of his facilities.
I know it's a stupid idea, but a lot of things that Brian France has done so far are stupid ideas. I figure something like this would be more inline with today's management.Quote:

Agreed :up: It was one of my favorites back when they used to shift. I loved it when they went to the in car view, guy would hit like 10,000rpm in 3rd then nail the OD right at the start/finish line. On my old Nascar Thunder 2004 game I actually have my trans set up to shift. I used to SMOKE my little bro at Pocono until he finally figured out what i was doing :DQuote:
