Sadly, that race attracts a unique class of morons and I can completely understand why the police/organisers have taken that stance. For the more sensible and/or family-oriented racegoers (who make up the majority) it is a good thing and helps prevent harrassment and destruction of property.
It's a hell of a race, I always reserve the entire day to sit and enjoy all 6 hours of it. I haven't missed it since I first watched it in 1977 as an 8 year old :p There is literally never a dull moment.
Whilst I was unemployed I did start a 'hypothetical-for-now' list of races around the world I'd like to go to in my lifetime in various racing series [I came up with about 30 abroad], and obviously Bathurst was one of them (although, it has to be admitted, the Aussie ones are a little bit of a stretch distance and money-wise!).
I believe a Mr Bayliss will be making his V8 debut there this year, am I right in thinking?

He certainly is, partnering Dean Fiore in the Triple F Racing Commodore. It's a mid level car/package but a great introduction for Bayliss.Quote:

Wayne Gardner raced in V8 Supercars for a while too - he got the nickname 'Captain Chaos' after punting a few competitors here and there, but raced pretty solidly towards the front of the field.
Ooh, I hear ya. It must be special for me to sit in front of the idiot box to watch a tin top race for 6 hours! It is generally pretty dramatic. I hope Lowndes and Whincup don't win this year. Brocky was always my favourite and I'd love him to stay equal record holder of Bathurst wins in a row. Really hoping for a Holden win.Quote:

Hopefully Bathurst goes better for him than Phillip Island. Top 10 would be a dream.Quote:

Literally............His car caught fire in the pits putting it to the back of the grid for the start. Maybe the motorcycle gods are trying to get a message across.
Pretty chuffed with the Holden domination at Bathurst today, shame Bayliss wasn't part of it. At least his teammate tried to make him feel at home, wearing leathers at the pre-race driver announcements! :D Always love wet/dry races at the mountain, just hate so many safety cars. And to think they used to race bikes around there is insane!Quote:
