Paddon is a world class driver.Even if he is not tarmac specialist i think his driving skills are better than ucci's,scandola's etc.Italians have just the advantage of the road knowledge .
You're not taking into account severl aspect:
1) Ucci, Scandola etc drive Sanremo streets every year for decades. Even if you are a worse driver that is a huge advantage
2) Ucci, Scandola etc showed top speed at WRC2 leading rally sardinia in 2015 and 2016 until technical problems, so they can count to a solid basis of speed that is not easy to find elsewhere.
3) Ucci, Scandola etc never had occasion to prove themself with the best in an international level.
4) Ucci was ahaed of Mikkelsen in Sanremo during IRC some years ago (correct me if I'm wrong, I didn't follow rallies back then, I'm relying on what I heard afterwards).
5) Ucci, Scandola etc drives R5 everytime while for Paddon is the first time after many years (of course he's driving beasts now that are harder to drive but it's still a different car and I guess that will cost him somehow)
6) Paddon wants mileage in tarmac with Seb at his side, he will not risk everything, Ucci, Scandola etc have a championship to win.
7) Paddon is driving with a barely new codriver, it's not the same as having the usual one.
For these reason I don't think Paddon will win the event or be at TOP pace this weekend. Close to them yes, but not better.
Let's see.

Real pleasure to test the Hyundai R5 today - very nice and easy to drive straight out of the box. Now some time to adjust and fine tune

Lukyanuk did a nice job on last Canarias but I was actually thinking on the twice ERC champ and all the top spanish drivers. Surprisingly, or not, Ostberg was leading the rally 6.9s ahead Katjo, before he went off in SS7. https://www.ewrc-results.com/results...te-Ingles-2016

At the press conference Rovanpera was talking about the difficulty he has warming the tyres in the road section... because his co-driver has to do this !

Nice one

where can i see the results? thanks
Paddon 4th on SS1, 3sec off the leader.
Rovanpera seems struggling this time, already 53,9 seconds behind the leader after 24 kms.
Maybe he has some problem?
PS2: Scandola leads, Ucci 0.5 seconds behind, Campedelli 4s, Paddon 8.9 seconds.
Seems my previsions are turning to be correct.
Scandola slow puncture at PS3 loses 17 seconds, than on PS4 the wheel alignment is not good because of the puncture and he loses further 5 seconds.
Nucita, Rusce out. crews ok. Ferrarotti big problems, now more than 3 minutes behind.
Overall after PS4. (PS5 will be within 6 hours)

Paddon from Facebook:
Sitting 3rd after the first loop - amazing stages to drive and enjoying a lot. The locals are no slouches and the speed up the front is very hot. Now we look forward to some night stages tonight
comments after ss4
Hayden Paddon: 6.48.0 I really like the tests, in some notes notes are not perfect but we're still having fun
Simone Campedelli: 6.50.3 not bad, I have a little 'suffering, all in all not bad, congratulations to Paddon
Alessandro Perico: 6.52.1 not bad, I'm getting better
Paolo Andreucci: 6.44.8 fine for now we see others, but well, ok the car and tires. Strong but without taking excessive risks
Elwis Chentre 6.57.8 not good
Umberto Scandola bad 6.49.9 we tried a stone on predecente test, we drilled and we opened the convergence, the machine is not more
Kalle Rovanpera: not very well, I did not trust the completion of the car and tires 7.13.4
Chewon Lim: touched the wall, slightly bent back right 8: 02.0
comments after ss1
Hayden Paddon: 6.53.1 all right, nice try, puluta and we had fun
Simone Campedelli: well, I suffered a bit 'of understeer 6: 52.0
Alessandro Perico: 6.56.1 fine in the end, ok, I'm happy
Paolo Andreucci: 6.50.1 is sliding a lot, did not think I went like this, you see that for others .. is very slippery
Elwis Chentre: 7.02.3 I have not led so well, let's move on
Umberto Scandola: 6.51.0 I lost on the descent, I took a shot and I thought I had a puncture, so good
Antonio Rusce: 7.05.9 I always start like a diesel, the beginning is always traumatic
Ivan Ferrarotti: 7.07.5 beginning slipped so much, I have to try to pick up the pace
Andrea Nucita: 6.53.5 went well, I got zero risk, I have to be in place when I think of pushing
Kalle Rovanpera 7.10.4 no good, the car was understeering too much and the weather is not good
Chewon Lim: we still have to work on the notes, a good test anyway 7: 08.3
After three 4th places, Paddon 2nd on SS4, so learning ...
After the checks carried out at the end of ps.4, it was disqualified Danilo Ameglio for lack of the underwear. Also confirmed for the same reason, disqualification for Toto Riolo. Of course, the suspension affects the entire event, and then can not start tomorrow for the second stage

And I met special guest before SS3!! Thank you so much Jari-Matti Latvala!! I got even bigger motivation!!

While Ucci is very spectacular driver his drifting always looks to be effective. That can't be said about Scandola. He looks usually wild.
Anyway... looking forward to Ronde. That one will be likely decisive.

By the way Chewon Lim is doing again quite good times considering his experience. Pity of the puncture on SS4 but that happens. Also better times for Abarths on dry.
Campedelli out of road at big night stage Crew ok.
Rovanpera changing wheel
Paddon spun.
pretty fast news at rallylink.it
http://www.rallylink.it/cms16/index.php/sanremo-2017
Campedelli crashed, Lim stopped. Paddon, Scandola and Andreucci nearly equal over the 33 km long night stage. Nice!
Three drivers in one second after 33kms. Very nice! Paddon, Ucci and Scandola on another planet. The 4th is 26 secs behind and already the 5th more than one minutes behind!
Shame for Campedelli retired.
Paddon also spun at the last corner. "we are used to a more powerful car and we did a mistake"
He's clearly pushing more now! :)
