Yup - your go edv, and the city is Zaporizhia. The structure flooded about 70kms of rapids upstream making the river navigatable from the Black Sea thru Kiev. Also was the largest hydro-electric station in Europe at the time of it's construction.
I would have never guessed that town!
OK Now it is time to show your love for FUNICULARS!

For those who don't remember, a FUNICULAR is one of those funky inclined railways. I've been on lots of em on 4 different continents.
I want to know the COUNTRY for each of the following FUNICULARS:
a) The STEEPEST Funicular
b) The LONGEST Funicular
c) The OLDEST Funicular
Bonus points if you know the location names.
I think I just love saying the word FUNICULAR!
Damn it! Since I've read the question I can't stop singing " Funiculi, Funicula ". My colleagues are already exasperated.
I don't know the answers but I suppose for a and b it must be USA.
a) Quebec City?
North America is not in play here.
a. The Peak tram in Hong Kong
b. Erm... the peak tram in Hong Kong?
c. Wellington, NZ at the Botanical Gardens?
I've been on a few funicular railways in my time, but one of the coolest was a water powered one in Machynlleth in Wales.
Asia is not in play here.
The Wellington one is nice...I was on it last year...but it is not very old....you have to think REAL old, (like 500 yrs!)..so maybe a castle somewhere?
Switzerland for oldest & steepest
REAL old?
Now I am stumped! :s will have to go away and think. I am agreeing that the longest/steepest funicular is most likely Alpine...
