,,Hello to all fans! Just before the start of the Arctic Rally Finland, an old friend Michal Ernst appears next to me. Viktor Chytka and I mutually agreed after yesterday's test that we will postpone the joint start to our WRC2 project for security reasons to another competition. Arctic Rally is a very demanding and fast competition without orientation points, which puts extreme claims on the passenger's job. Viktor is healthy anyway and news of his Covid positivity is not true.''
Olivers main goal is getting to the checkered flag.
So Petter will say something like this;
start slow. Then get to know the car, and the check that settings are ok.
Slowly increase speed during day 2, and see where you are speedwise towards the top.
Many will have gone off by now, and you are top 10, maybe top 7.
Day3: Continue with the speed you ended day 2 with. 1 or 2 more will go off.
Checkered flag, main goal reached.
And you have enjoyed your first Rally in a WRCar!
Forecasts are giving from 0 to -5 C for whole rally, and on Sunday there could be some plus degrees
like always, lol
Rally Sweden this year would have had perfect snow conditions
Rovaniemi on this weekend a year ago would have been between -5 and -20
So we now know that to have winter rally even Rovaniemi doesn't guarantee you a perfect winter conditions. What a world we're living....

Sure. And at the beginning of Feb also in Torsby a real winter this year. But my point was that we are not guaranteed of good conditions unless within very narrow time frame (Jan 15 - Feb 15).
Also considering that we have always Monte at the end of January then we have only 2nd week of February left for winter rally.
EDIT: don't take it as complaining. My thoughts are more directed towards ideas how to have proper winter rallies in the future.

Yeah, Arctic Lapland Rally has been traditionally arranged in the same week as Monte or one week before.
Mads said he is very surprised, that there is quite a lot of gravel out already after the recce and not so thick layer of ice/snow. Will be demanding for tyres and studs.. SS1/2

Less than 24h to closing time for Pickems. Closing time 1400 CET Friday.
Changed list of drivers: Bulacia out. Brynildsen in.
Should be no problem with studs on the Pirelli's as they are vulcanised into the rubber in manufacture, not added afterwards like Michelin's.
First run of Friday stage should be full, solid, snow but 2nd pass will have a bit of gravel showing through.
Dirtfish at the tests said Toyota ran in these conditions (some gravel after 2 runs), but where Hyundai tested the road was watered and surface was frozen ice...
