@TeemuSuninen
Ciao @acirallymonza !
Driving WRC cars on circuit is going to be so good. All the power and aero makes them fun to drive on the track, can’t wait to experience it again. I've started in circuit racing and hope that'll help me challenge for a good result to end the year.
Suninen drove Monza rally 2 years ago and got clearly beaten by Rossi and won only a single stage.
That's why I don't think he will do well. Don't remember him doing well on WRC SSS either.
That's last year's car (just like Loubet had). Think he might have trouble beating Katsuta with that one.
Arnaud Remy, Rally Manager at Michelin Motorsport, told DirtFish:
“We explained to the FIA the concerns of the teams regarding the stages on Saturday. With that in mind, we will be taking snow tires with us to the event.
These will be snow tires without studs. Maybe they'll go from the Clermont-Ferrand factory to Monza and back to Clermont-Ferrand without getting out of the truck.
This is our last event and we don't want to take any chances. It doesn't matter if we don't use them, we have to have them out there so that we can have a choice. "
Regarding the other possible options for the 2020 Monza Rally, Arnaud Remy clarified:
“The super soft (soft) tire that we are bringing to Rallye Monte-Carlo is much more related to the temperature. It works if it's dry, but very cold, as it can be in Monte Carlo. We don't expect this at Monza. And the difference between a medium and a hard one was not that big. "
Monza is the last round of the season and it makes sense - obviously - that we take these tires and the snow tire as well. We will be ready. "
Are there Intermediate Supersofts for rallying...? :) :)
Didn´t read Michelin stat above.. but the question maybe not answered anyway...
Latest forecast for Selvino on Saturday is +2 and rain. However since it can come 30-40 cm snow on Friday it is not certain everything will melt.
Since these are normally used roads I assume they get plowed.
In any case if they are allowed to salt them, plow+salt should remove all snow by Saturday without a problem.

The final round of the FIA World Rally Championship has a record number of 51 entries of RC2 cars. The strongest brand by far is again ŠKODA with 31 FABIA rally cars on the list. Record Czech Rally Champion Jan Kopecký is highly motivated for his return to the FIA World Rally Championship: “I got the offer from Toksport WRT to do the ACI Rally Monza, which runs entirely on tarmac – one of my most favourite surfaces. I am happy to be re-united with Pontus Tidemand, who is fighting for his second WRC2 title after 2017. In 2018, I managed to win the title ahead of him and this time we are both driving for Toksport with the engineering support from ŠKODA Motorsport.” Thanks to strategically clever drives, Tidemand could secure already three WRC2 category wins in the 2020 season and travels to Monza as leader of the championship.

Something like 5-10 cm on the highest point of ss7/10 now and forecast saying it should snow more before turning into rain on saturday morning:

As I wrote before a snow plow and salt on the road would remove everything with temps around zero, but question is if they want to do that and are allowed to do that.
Obviously I'm a Tänak fan and he should benefit a LOT when theres slush on the road for guys starting before him.
But they should absolutely plow and salt the roads, to create equal conditions.

Could turn into another Monte circus, as per a few years ago when Delecour crossed his tyres and won by a mile on some stages.
Do they have access to monte winter tyres on this rally, or could they just go ans buy some sets freom Pirelli/Michelin locally?
I think you mean Monte 2011 in IRC:
https://www.ewrc-results.com/results...-2011/?s=15597
Thing is that then it was dry and started to snow (a lot). Skodas and Solberg on slicks lost 8-17!!! s/km to Delecour on studs.
Now in Monza it looks set for something more like Monte 2018:
https://www.ewrc-results.com/results...2018/?s=154131
Then there was fresh snow that started to melt, with reverse order it was Breen and Evans opening the road covered in snow, while last WRCs like Ogier and Mikkelsen had almost only wet road and very late starters like Nucita in Fiat 124 (4th place in stage :D ) had drying road.
circus?
this will be epic finale to the season!

Currently based on forecasts like this:
https://www.yr.no/en/forecast/daily-...ergamo/Selvino
- There will definitely be precipitation both Friday and Saturday
- Right now forecast says that it should turn from snow to rain already Friday afternoon, in that case everything on road will melt
- However, with temperatures within a few degrees of freezing very small temperature differences have huge impact so we wont know until Saturday morning
wow recce with snow, and rally with no snow will be tricky to make correct notes.Unvisible cuts etc
https://twitter.com/OfficialWRC/stat...69773722914816
And no ice/gravel crews for this rally
really? arent they there for every tarmac rally?
weird decision
confirmed the snow tyres

Winner takes all in WRC 2 Monza showdown
The stage is set for Pontus Tidemand and Mads Østberg to fight head-to-head for the WRC 2 series crown at this week’s ACI Rally Monza (3 - 6 December).

Right now it looks more like 3 days of massive rain.
Trying to make sense of the tire limits. After reading both the Fia WRC sporting regulations, the Monza Supplementary regulations and Bulletin n4 I still don't get how the number is limited.
The first two documents only mention the total number. But in bulletin n4 (from here https://www.acirallymonza.com/notice-board/?lang=en ) it says:
First choice 24
Second choice 12
Wet 12
Snow 8
Total 24.
If you pick Wet as first choice can you get more than 12? I guess they don't wear much in rain, but with all the handbrake turns on the circuit they might wear a bit?
Related question, how to find out which R5 is using what tires right now? (besides looking on stickers at SD/other pictures.)

Top Rally2 driver tyre brands are covered here
As for the wet tyres wearing out, remember that this rally has less kilometres than on a normal rally. Basically Friday is half the normal length and Sunday would be on the short end compared to normal rally Sundays. It's also interesting that there's services between every Monza stage, so the tyres can really be optimized.
Didn't check there.
I'd say on Canarias there were some small indications that Michelin wets might be slightly better when it was very wet, while Pirelli wets were better when it was damp. But temperatures were different and tarmac is also different.
There is still a limit in wrc sporting regulations (15.1) for max 7 tire changes during the course of the rally. With 13? service/flexi service that would mean changing only every other service.Quote:
