I'd say it's actually amazing how the car took that. It's like 140? sideways into the tree with no braking basically on the weakest part of the car.
Sure if it was 40 cm more back it would be more dangerous to co-driver, but then the deformation would likely be less due to B-pillar strength. Still good this was a car with short doors and not the whale (GB 2005 for those who don't remember).
