"Rumours" of a WRC candidate rally in KZN in August,
Bruce , do you know anything more?
I knew lots ages ago, just wasn't allowed to say anything! ;)
Yes there is a candidate event, it will be run in the forest area of Richmond this time but the proposed WRC event will be one day each on the north and south coast sugarcane fields and the forest stages. 3 times WRC champion Seppo Harjanne has already been here as mentioned in the press, he was actually here the week after the Total Rally and looked at those stages. Michelle Mouton is also supposed to be out soon to look at stuff. My father got a phone call back in Feb to do this event. I was also a bit cheeses that he spent the whole day with Seppo and only told me when he got home!
However I have spoken about this in another section of this forum and it seems the response has been very negative towards it, as has some comments on Facebook. Seems that even the locals don't want the event. Very sad situation.
Lets hope after the candidate event it will change some minds, i didnt get to do alot of the Zulu rally years back, but if its the same roads they should be good.
Nope, totally different roads and much better. If you'd been around during the late 90's you'd know them cos they were used on the Mintex Rally, part of the KZN championship, but it was the last event of the year and we used to get Serge and Jan coming to it, etc. Used to be like a 1-day national then.
Sorry, re-read your post after i sent mine and realised i missed the area you mentioned.
As long as they are good challenging roads im happy, the looming Gauteng mielie fields dont grab me to much unfortunately.
Round 3, Toyota Gauteng Dealer rally on 9th and 10th of June, not the most exciting event, alot of straights and not alot else,
Yes, and how are they dealing with this whole short-cutting nonsense this year? I hope they're not putting old cars at each corner like it was suggested before?
Will let you know when we get there, we have been told some surprises, so who knows.
Most likely "gates" will be erected with a judge of fact at each possible place.... hoping that bull @$%^ is a thing of the past.
Indeed, we don't need another event like that again.
Not at all negative. If can not be Kenya Safari ('cos we are all big fans), RSA is also very good choice.Quote:
