Rick Mears, in a Penske with a N/A engine?
Rick Mears is correct, as well Penske but which one?
engine?
year?
track?
1983
PC-11
Elkhart Lake??
guessing they tried a Chevy N/A engine as a last ditch effort to make PC-11 competitive before ditching it in favor of the PC-10B.....
You`re right Chris. :s mokin:
Penske ordered 2 PC11-Chevy`s after Indy and at least one assembled and arrived to States. It was normally aspirated V-8 and Penske hired AAR engine man Stump Davis to oversee the operation (Karl Kainhofer was original Penske`s engine man.)Chief mech was regular Penske`s "spare car" mech Clive Howell. Mears tried it firstly at Elkhart Lake practice, i believe this picture has taken.Later Penske even bought March83C from Brayton Racing(Pat Bedard`s car) after Pocono and run it in Pennzoil colours at Laguna Seca practice .
Your turn.
great picture of a rare Penske - I really had to guess on that one - I don't even remember the car.....
