What is happening when a rally car's homologation expired ? Does the manufacturer continues to provide spare parts to privateers, or not ? and for how long ?

And 2001 is not 1980 and the situation in 2001 was exactly the same, three rallies to go and still in the title hunt. Burns wanted to win so bad he was looking for other options (as Tänak might be now). I remembered this by heart because the contract situation was crazy. When announced, he was third in the standings but eventually won the whole thing which got him a bit into trouble because he had a clause in the contract that if he wins, Subaru can keep him. It depends on many things like whose car, which car and what group but mostly market conditions and if they're original, non-common (or made) parts not available elsewhere. Many parts aren't made by the *car manufacturer* and are available off the shelf elsewhere. The cars usually get added to an FIA "list of cars permitted to enter rallies" for an extra period, but outside of FIA championship scoring, and they may still be used in national rallies too. So they don't instantly become dead or precious.Quote:

It is always about deals and contracts. Usually drivers are not announcing moving to different team until the previous contract expire. If something like that is happening, it is usually after agreement with previous team...Quote:
