I have to disagree. The more difficult the conditions are the more driving skill will count. And rallying isn't about a single or two or three stages. Unless those are the only stages in the rally. The guy who has completed the course the fastest is the winner.

For me rallying skills are about, except from good strategy, how to handle a rallycar in 6th gear on gravel or snow when you have a pace note saying 5 left or right. Not driving in 60 km/h on slush with X set of tyres.

(1 - Ogier Sébastien / Ingrassia Julien): Looks like it is not the best tyre choice, but we have to wait for the loop. The next stage it should be better. (winter tyres crossed over with super softs)

My guess was he'd go for SS + Winter for first 2 stages and Winter + Studs for last one, so far I'm right. I guess he counts on next stage to gain more than the time lost on SS4

Well, I understand that, but picking better tires has nothing to do with driving skills. Probably better weather crew.

That's right, but when you chose wrong tyres, your skills will help you minimize the time loss (and avoid retirement) so you can counter-attack on the next loop or day. Ogier is still the main favorite, others are too scared or unreliable.

Rallying is and ALWAYS has been about coping with conditions. This event called Rallye Monte Carlo gave the name to the whole sport. It is far older than any other rally in the world and it has always been about the fight with conditions. How about Safari? Argentina? Acropolis? That is not rallying for You?

Looks like supersoft tyres are not meant for wet roads.. and wintertyres without studs is the correct choice:-) Strange tyres nowadays..
