On the video he asks Ola to repeat a note about the T- cross, but it was too late to brake to take the corner. Starts again and Andreas says there is something wrong wit left front, and thinks it is a puncture and stops to change it, but then sees there is more damage to the radiator. At least thats how I interpret the video and sound.Quote:

In my opinion, the entry list of the Tour de Corse this year was better. Also the Barum Rally and the Rally Sanremo should have better entry lists.Quote:

Tsjoen proves again to be the best non international Belgian rally driver, look how far the rest is. Sometimes you read it is because he has the most money, for me he has showed this is wrong (again) this weekend.

Pity Verschueren didn't make it to the finish. We saw him on Hollebeke and the VW made a lot of noise, probably the collector broken, they had this problem a lot on the Polo S2000 in the past. The 2 Polo's were a nice and spectacular addition to the IRC field.

It was a nice rally ! Hanninen, Loix et Mikkelsen are very very fast. Snijers had a good speed and Flodin could be faster with michelin tyres !!

Mikkelsen's junction was slippery, just watched Juho's onboard and he adds "slippy braking" to the notes there.

Klinger was very very lucky in the Megane (don't remember the drivers name) the penultimate stage. The team hit a pole very hard just behind his seat, no pictures of that?

Its the same in WRC, in Spain we met some people who drove with the gravel crew car of van Merksteijn to watch the stages on the gravel day Friday (so no gravel crews allowed) and they were not allowed to get in a certain range of the start and finish of the stages.
So what does you IRC-followers think of Flodins performance? First race in New car, New series and on tarmac makes Me think he did ok.

Back at work...
It was really nice rally. Great superfast places selected by Tommeke, big thanks to him and his father! It was nice to meet a lot of people from forum etc. The atmosphere in Ypres town, service in the main square with pubs all around is unique.
Škoda used new evolution of engine and it was one of the reasons why it was so far ahead of private Peugeot of Loix (see results from Heuvelland where there are many very long straights). Also the suspension worked visibly better over bumps. Also we must take into account Juho had Yannick Wilcox as his engineer in Ypres.
Freddy was driving brutal, maybe sometimes too much brutal. Juho very precise, Mikkelsen as expected (everyone who You asked before the rally said Andreas was going to crash first of the three).
Tsjoen was solid, we saw one crisis of him on SS4. Snijers was... like always, spectacular, fast but clearly not the top anymore (but for his age still awesome). By eyes Solowow was driving really nice, big cuts, braking late. He had too short gearbox and some offs though. Flodin was strange, sometimes really fast, sometimes looking rather careful. Also Saliuk was much better than I expected. Van den Heuvel driving clearly faster than Aigner, so was the car. Vianne started slow but got faster with every stage. Langenakens for me quite disappointing. Tlusťák like usual, on SS4 he was off near us. Verschueren was driving nice and it was great to see fast driven Polo again. De Cecco was really fast before his crash (we could see the falling pole from distance) but I noticed he almost never cut keeping the car on asphalt, rather unusual in Ypres.
2WD guys were mad - especially Arzeno and Kangur, also Gilbert, Demarschalk, Riedemann, Vanneste, Radoux etc. were really fast. I can't still believe Kangur could finish by his driving. We saw one his very hot moment on SS6. I forgot to mention Méganes. Princen was driving really really fast and Consani not bad at all but the car works really bad in suspension. In bumpy cuts both cars were jumping all around. we also saw an almost crash of Molly Taylor in SS6 just infront of her fans.
We saw only one stage of historics and their top was nice too.
EDIT: The safety. We don't go to slow places so we can't complain. In fast places You often keep the ten meter rule for Your own good and otherwise You just wait until the heli is gone and than take a place You want. There are usually no marshals or tapes there...
Anyway really nice rally and it was great to be back. Hopefully next year again with Peugeot in full strength :)

There was some very inconsistent marshalling on display on these stages with some of the marshals displaying overtly fascist tendencies, being well power crazed.
One of the most pointless and pathetic displays were, dare I say, by three British marshals (shandy drinkers!) on one of the Friday night stages...for a car to have crashed into us would have meant that on the exit of a tight left hander, the car would have to accelerate from near standstill to about 80mph in the space of about 10 meters, jump two meters up in the air and leap a two meter ditch to reach us....additionally, being 43, I like to think that I am able to make intelligent and informed decisions about my own safety but to be screamed at for daring attempt to cross from one side of a road to the other (after waiting for the road to be clear obviously) and then be physically restrained, does seem extreme.
In other places we could quite easily have stood in the road and no one seemed to be bothered, so where was the consistency?
Stupid spectators, like we have seen in Ireland recently, and the over the top safety aspect of this event, will kill rallying, if commonsense isn't applied.
The Nazi, bully boy tactics, the likes of which we saw this weekend, will just stop people going out to watch, and the sport will become the preserve of the wealthy....it's happening already.
On a plus side....there isn't an IRC car around that can compete with a Lancia 037 for spectacle, and I do agree incidentally, that the information for the Historics was woeful...the website was particularly rubbish!
It was as though the organisers didn't anyone to know anything!

I think no-one finds clean lines in junctions amusing but most of us just don't go there. You can't see who is driving fast in a T-junction. In really fast places no gr.B car can give a spectacle of S2000, sorry. The sound is great but the speed in corners is like a slow motion. The suspension made so huuuge improvement that the cornering speed is just incredible with modern cars. Don't get me wrong, I like historics but the kind of spectacle they give is different and if You want to see the best You have to choose places according to specifics of each one.Quote:

Sure, you can be any age to be stupid, but my life experience tells me I am less likely to get squashed standing at the start of a jump, than in the potential landing zone.
I take on board your points about the speed of the IRC's through corners etc., but watching Droogmans or Paddy Snijers in a MKII is far more exciting!!*
I understand the Historic's didn't use all the same stages as the IRC's, but the coverage was woeful, period.
The organisers were definately less interested in the Historics as they bring in less prestige and less money than the IRC....after all, the organisers' ultimate aim is to get the old '24 Heuren Van Ieper' rally, like it was in the good old days, to be a WRC round, which I'm surprised it hasn't become yet.
Do I take it not many saw the 037 on this years historic event then?
