This event later became a round of the APRC including its iconic Mineshaft Stage (until it became too dangerous). Highlights of the 1980 event were Ari Vattanen driving Car No.1, the tarmac spectator stage around a new suburban development tackled by the cars in full gravel spec and Greg Carr winning the rally for the 6th time!
