I think that that's for scenery. Cold, icy, covered with snow decor. It must be lil' bit darky i think.
It's always nice to see it happening live, but this stage didn't look exciting at all. Looked more like a circus to me, with the "Christmas" decor, the fire bursting and the way the cars entered.
Cardiff used to have an outside "proper" SSS till some years ago if I remember correctly. I don't like these stadium stages. Ah well...I'd rather have a real stage anyway.
