Loeb make a great rally with his Peugeot 306 Maxi!

But R5 guys were the real heroes. Amazing performance from Bonato and Amourette on their DS3, always on the limit!
Even if the series point system undermines WRC driver’s title chances, it’s a shame that WRC cars are still admitted without a 30mm restrictor and RRC specs.
Btw, as always, nice coverage from rally-sport.fr

Seb Loeb with historic 306 Maxi destroyed all opponents in two decades newer cars in Rallye de Haute Provence winning 7 of 8 stages and the rally. Fanguiaire (Fiesta WRC), Stéphane Consani (Fiesta R5) or Margaillan (Fabia R5) didn't have a chance.

Sebastien Loeb has concretized a wish that he has been pursuing for some time: to line up at the start of a race at the wheel of the Peugeot 306 Maxi. Now the official driver of the Lion brand, the world champion of the rallies took advantage of the roads of the Rallye de Haute Provence to compete in the famous Kit-Car that had shone in the 90s with Gilles Panizzi and François Delecour.
On this appointment where he was co-driver by his wife Séverine, the Alsatian won on arrival, but admits not having had the easy part.
"The objective of this weekend was above all to have fun, and we can say that it is successful," recalls Loeb. The stages resembled what can be found on a Monte Carlo or a Var, with a good level of grip, on bumpy, fast and somewhat wide roads. It's typically the kind of profile where it's nice to drive a kit-car.
It was all the more fun because Eric Fanguiaire, the regional of the stage, gave us a good contrast with his Ford Fiesta WRC. We had to tear ourselves to be in front! It was in the sixth special of Esparron that we managed to make a difference: it was technical, with very fast portions downhill and I think I really rode well. "
Used to four-wheel drive since the Xsara WRC, Sébastien Loeb has found the steering of a two-wheel drive after making a few preparatory rounds. "Originally, I was not sure what to expect as to the performance level of the car. In the end, she is really healthy to fly, and goes great in the fast!
It is obviously necessary to type in, and to open trajectories to go for traction, but it is in no way vicious. I gradually managed to be finer in my driving, unless saturate the front end.
It is also that with my team, we fine-tuned the settings to erase the understeer which was suffering a bit at the beginning of the rally. In other words, I am particularly pleased with my new acquisition and I am already looking forward to relocating to my car. "

That's the best french championship since sooo long. Good to see so many young - or not so young now :) - talented drivers having R5. Now we have :
- Yoann Bonato (34 y/o) : former Citroën & Opel official drivers, winner of Swift Cup & Adam Cup
- Vincent Dubert (24 y/o) : winner of Citroën Trophy 2015
- Fabiano Lo Fiego (37 y/o) : two times third of Citroën Challenge (2005 & 2006)
- Quentin Giordano (30 y/o) : top contender of various french trophies, podiums in JWRC, one podium in WRC2
- Charles Martin (28 y/o) : winner of Twingo Trophy 2012, winner of 208 Racing Cup 2014, official Peugeot driver in ERC 2015, winner of Clio Trophy 2016
- Yohan Rossel (22 y/o) : winner of french junior champ in 2014, winner of CRT 2016
- Jérémi Ancian (33 y/o) : winner of Suzuki Cup 2009, winner of Peugeot cup 2012, official Peugeot driver in ERC 2013, then Nothing
- Bruno Riberi (25 y/o) : some good results in Peugeot Cup (5th in 2015)
+ some good gentlemen (Roché, Mauffrey, Gal, ...)
The 30+ drivers never had the opportunity to drive good 4WD cars, even when it was S2000 time. Now they are here. That's great.

Entry List for Lyon-Charbonnières:http://www.asarhone.com/site/pdf.php...s_modernes.pdf
Friday there are 5 stages (2x2 stages + SSS) and on saturday another 8 (2x4 stages).
Stages are fast and mostly wide, although some parts are a bit Barum (bumpy broken tarmac with gravel, fast and in a forest). When wet, there are some very slippery black patches on the tarmac. Stages for the brave drivers, I think the leading 208s will be high up in the general classification again!.

Sad news from Italy and France. RIP.
Despite the tragic SS3 accident, Lyon Charbo Rally continued and eventually was won by Salanon WRC Fiesta. A puncture took Bonato chances of victory and despite a strong comeback he wasn’t able to recover P2 from Rossel on the other R5 DS3. Efren Larena, spain’s new talent, won 208 Cup ahead of Pellier and Magnout. http://www.rallye-sport.fr/es13-lyon-charbo-2017/
He started in circuit racing and, apparently, he’s back to it. https://pt-pt.facebook.com/robert.consani/

Shocking news from France! Anthony Puppo won Rallye d'Antibes in his first ever rally in the French championship! Until now Puppo was only competing in Coupe de France (second league championship), but decided to have a try at the highest level and won! Many people say that Yoann Bonato, Quentin Giordano and Charles Martin are one of the most talented drivers in France, but it was the unknown Puppo, who beat them all! Congratulations!!! :)
Final results and some videos can be found here:

Little side mark, Puppo was born and lives on the Antibes stages. But still, very strong result!
Anyone will be present at next gravel round - Terre du Diois?

Less direct competition than in Italy. A couple of drivers still using WRC cars, with fastest R5 drivers trying to reach them. Bonato (DS3R5) is the benchmark for Paddon.
Paddon spun and lost plenty of time at 1st stage
