I'd like to re-start this thread with the attached photo I took at a concourse several years ago. According to the placard, the tires shown are the ones it wore at Indy way back when! Please provide the driver, car, and year the driver attempted to qualify it for the Indy 500.
No takers? Well, if anyone stumbles across this in the future, the photo shows the 1956 Ferrari of Giuseppe Farina. He failed to qualify for the I500.
Nice photo - I guess we have all been "asleep at the wheel" on this thread for a while :(

Anyway, for anyone who is interested - I just picked up and re-read Mark Donohue's book The Unfair Advantage - awesome book - well worth the read..... For those in the Northeast, apparently there is some sort of Mark Donohue tribute weekend at Watkins Glen in late August that might see some of his old Indycars running at the track - might a a neat event.....

One of the more unusual photos of Lloyd Ruby was when he took his RE Mongoose to Duquoin and the Indiana State fairgrounds to try to qualify on dirt. He didn't make either field (only 18 did), but it still looks cool doensn't it.

BUMP. I have tried to rearch this and haven't had much luck.
It looks like the old Ontario Motor Speedway and that looks like a '72-'74 McLaren, obviously a second hand effort. Other tan that I have not been able to find a #43 of that vintage.
It's not Ontario and the car although it looks like a McLaren it is not. It is a second hand effort when the car was run by a top team think Indy Winner.Quote:

year is possibly 1974 and I wouldn't try to guess the driver.
I'm thinking ChrisR is right - the "pole" sign in the back of the photo looks like Pocono and the car is awfully similar to Al Unser's 1978 Indy winner.
The inside of the pit wall looks like the old boiler plate used at Pocono too. I say it's Pocono.

I guess it's Roger Mears in the #97 Del Ray Marine and judging from the tyre marks, it's a short oval. So, Milwaukee ?

ok, it is Milwaukee in 1980 and the one car is Johncock - the other is a King Chevy.
The race is the FIRST race at Milwaukee in 1980 (Rex Mays) and this was the driver's only Indycar start....

Let me add that the picture was made before the Trenton 200 race, in 1964. So it's local for you (NJ). :D
I figured it was either Trenton or Milwaukee .... I did not realize that either Parnelli was that small or Clark was that big....
anyway, nice picture of the two sides of the front and rear engine "war"....
