The language of "Must stay to/on the prescribed route" in no way hints or implies or even whispers anything about just where you position the car . Not should you drive the CAR in the middle of the road, over to one side --hopefully-- or on the shoulder..No hint at all...
Well, anyone can go into the semantics. Organizers were aware of the possibility for some big cuts and hence, the issue was addressed in Bulletin No1 :
