compared to the past yes the entry is rather lousy....the level of Greek rallying doesn't help either. If we exclude Athanassoulas the rest are just going to make our brains hurt....but ok the swrc entry is quite nice. Pity it did not attract any good privateers like sardinia did.
Our ferry will start on June 13 in Venice, arrival at Patras on Jun 15, 05:00 am
Well NOT as I mentioned before, especially for privateers then money has a lot to do with it. I know that even in the UK there are drivers that are keeping their cars in their garages and waiting until the economy improves until they think go back out. Unfortunately that's the way it is at the moment and even more so in Greece, hopefully it won't be too much longer before it's back to something more normal.
But hey, it gives you longer after the stage finishes to chill out, relax, have an early lunch and have a snooze under the shade of a tree before they come around again ;)
unfortunatelly and as it was pointed out earlier with the mentality we have in this country even if the situation was better you would see 20 greek privateers instead of 5 cruising through the stages....and its normal when after the event nobody has the balls to say to those tourists that they were total crap and everyone congratulates them for the finish in the event....
It's weird we thought that too here in Belgium but this year the entries of many rallies are huge! Many WRC's and some rallies full booked and have to refuse teams to start because the limit is meeted.Quote:

if you ask the question how many top drivers has Belgium produced over the years ?? and how many greek drivers our country produced over the years then you have your self the answer why in my country the sport is dying and in Belgium despite the economy the sport flourishes....
Only one week to go now!
It’ll be my first Acropolis Rally and I’m very excited.
I’d have a couple of questions:
Will there be any kind of spectator guide with good maps for sale?
Are there usually a lot of spectators and does the rally cause any traffic jams?
The official programme will be published very soon and is free. For maps and access on stages, you can visit the official website of the event. Have fun NikoP and don't forget the Rally Forum Acropolis meeting!!!Quote:

click on the individual stages and a menu will open with the map and the access points for each stage with road-book style directions
As for traffic jams i highly doubt it, stay away from the dog city of athens and you will be fine....my guess is that the spectators are going to be much less this year, you might encounter the odd stupid idiot blocking the path to the stage with his car of course but i do not think you are going to have huge problems with parking spots if you follow the direction of the guide.
Enjoy the event.
the rally might not be that dry after all....on tuesday and wednesday we have a rain possibility prediction.... of course with temperatures reaching around 30C the rain might not affect the texture of the event much on the rally days....but the weather is quite unstable here the last month or so so we might have a interesting event.
you can see weather predictions here

Well looks like there may be possible disruption due to strikes in Greece on 15th June, I really really hope Athens airport is not closed........... :s Any other day I don't mind but not the 15th!!
Airports very rarely close here....most of the companies have private staff and even if the few lazy public service people are on strike the airport is open.
I think the main issue would be air traffic control though? Will have to wait and see what happens early next week. If it comes to it could hopefully fly on the 16th instead and miss shakedown ( :( ).
Have a look here J4MIE: NewsIt.gr:
So, next Wednesday, June 15for 24 hours, the airspace of Greece will be closed and will not place any flights to and from Greek airports.
Unless the strike of Air Traffic Controllers Union will be illegal.
Nice video : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KQO7L...&feature=share
Owch. Not good. Will have to wait to hear from my airline then I guess which will be at the last minute :(
On 14 June will strike too?Quote:

do not worry that much....if the strike is on then since we are at the start of the tourist season the airports might work with safety staff on duty so you might fly eventually but with a delay....
Well, let's hope for the best than..
Hopefully you are right NOT. The airlines won't want to cancel flights unnecessarily so would wait until just before to make sure they couldn't go. It will hopefully be possibly to get changed onto a flight on Thursday if you are quick enough after notification.
I had the same thing last year when trying to go to Sanremo, the French were on strike so my flight got cancelled :(
Could someone tell me where is this place?

Thanks.
Its 14 kms into the ss
follow access points 6 at the thiva stage
Acropolis Rally, 16-19 June 2011 - Spectators - Access to SS
i would not recomend it though since its a very slow twisty section but you can watch the cars for long time...if it is your cup of tea go for it...
Thiva is not a very good stage but its close to athens if you stay there and there is a very fast jump at about 2-2.5 kms into the stage...
this one

which then ends in a tight right hand corner a few hundred meters....

OMG I just read about a strike. I'm flying to Athens tonight but my friend will fly on Wednesday. Hope they can avoid a strike.
Ok, heard today that because it is "high" season concerning tourism the flight coordinators will not follow full strike and will stop working for only around 4 hours in the midday-afternoon e.g 12.00-16.00 which means that everybody lands and takes off with just some delays for the flights during these hours...
Okay, we arrive around 11 o'clock so we should be fine than :)
It was expected....
I won't arrive at 1505 then! :(
But that is good news anyway ;)
