The year is 1970 but otherwise you are correct; that is my favorite R-E super. I would have loved to see those race on a road course, especially since I just found out that the first year Riverside open they had a 500 mile race there for sprint cars.Quote:

While off-topic, I have the say the super-modifieds look pretty interesting - there is probably something to be learned there for the next Indycar formula....
Here is the next one:
Jim Rathmann
#5 Watson-Offy (John Zink Special)
Monza 500 race
1958
right car
wrong year
wrong track
wrong driver
keep digging ;)
Troy Ruttman @ Indianapolis
1957 Indy 500 ?
getting warmer - right track - moving in the wrong direction on the year....
keep digging ;)
Sorry for the delay, it slipped out of my mind.
Pat Flaherty
#18 John Zink Watson-Offy
1959 Indy 500
no problem.
very warm,
right year
right track/race
wrong driver (right team - 2 cars...)
debatably wrong car (depends on what source you believe)
Then it can only be Bob Veith and his #7 Moore-Offy.
It took me a week to guess. How pathetic is that ? http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g2...ink/orn/00.gif
you got it!!
a week, a day - no matter- you got it.... ;)
your turn!
OK, the usual please :

It's Big Al. Phoenix got it.
Wrong Johnny Lightning car, I was thinking the # on the pit wall had something to do with the car # and AL was #2 that year. Oh well. :)

Let's go with Trenton in 1971 - before the M-16 arrived.....
You are correct Chris. This photo sure kept everyone digging.Quote:

That's Eddie Sachs in the ill-fated Halibrand Ford in 1964 @ Indy.
Alex has it - a picture like that makes you wonder why those guys would actually get in a car like that - it has "death trap" written all over it..... It was almost literally an engine, a fuel tank and a driver and the poor driver had no protection from much of anything....
your turn.....
Different era, different mindset. I was reminded of this when Phil Hill passed away recently. He only got his chance in Formula One, because Peter Collins and Luigi Musso were both killed thereby moving He and Von Trips to the top tier. It was just an accepted risk then that we don't accept now.
Anyway, Drivers cars, Track, Year.
???, Laguna Seca, 1971.

I think the answer to the Donohue photo is wrong. In 1971 he ran the #68 Lola-Offy but this photo shows a #66 Lola-Ford, so must be 1970 and a different track then.Quote:

I knew I should have researched this photo more. Just ID it by what was on the back of it. Looks to be 1970 Ontario with that combo plus the full face helmet. Thanks :DQuote:

Here's my guess, this may have been my first Indy 500 if I am right.
Year & Track: 1960 Indy 500
Driver: Al Herman
Car: Ewing
Engine: Offenhauser
