A lot of WRC cars, great competition in R3, R3T and R2 classes. Slovenian young talent Novak is also present with Fabia R2, we will see, what kind of progress has he managed to learn (speaking realistically the gap behind Italian star Vescovi will be the measure).
About oweral winner: Manuel Sossella is my favourite.
My prediction was on the spot : Manuel Sossella won by a solid margin in front of Piero Longhi. Part of this victory is also the fact, that C4 WRC is still one step in front of 1,6l Mini WRC. Of course Manuel is also at least on the same level as Longhi concerning driving skills, it is not yust the better car.....The serial ''trophy king'' Roberto Vescovi won in R2B class, but this time he had a very strong competition-Nicoli was at the end yust four seconds slower. Slovenian driver Novak drove a very solid race, he was some four minutes behind Vescovi (4th place in R2B class).

What a sad weekends in the rallying-almost each weekend this beautiful sport requires casualties. Condolences to the families and relatives.
This has to be stopped, first measure should be reducing the speeds in the bends.
How do You want to do it? It's sport in which the main goal is to go faster. How do You want to make everyone go sower? I know it's sad and emotional after every such accident but please get real.

As a driver you immedeatly feel the grip so there´s no danger in having less grip. I too think it´s one of many solutions making rallying safer.Quote:

I heard the automatic fire extinguisher system those cars have failed, so hopefully the FIA will look at this serious problem and promote the development of a new and more efficient system.
The automatic fire-extinguisher is small. It can't stop really big fire. You saw that often even plenty of extinguishers is not enough. It's not possible to bring in car a hundred kilograms heavy one and even than it can't stop the fire if for example a whole tank is torn apart. Till the cars will use petrol fuel they will burn from time to time. Even with electric cars the risk of fire is quite big (with Li-Ion batteries), CNG also isn't safe. In my opinion for fire risk it's best to use diesel engines. Diesel is very difficult to ignite itself. One thing is that it would lead to loose a lot of spectacle and spectator safety due to the sound.
The tires. I would not go into comparison with F1. It's different world. Their tyres still have way more grip than any tyres used in rallying. The safety of F1 is mostly in modern extremely safe circuits and purpose built cars. You don't need to go far to see what worse tyres do. In all asphalt WRC events they use tyres with less grip than in national championships, ERC or IRC. It's caused by the single pattern for both dry or wet surface. As a result this year in Monte Carlo in better conditions WRC cars were not faster than S2000 cars last year (stage Lucerám).
But anyway for me it's not a solution of anything because You can't stop the development. After few years those single pattern tyres will be faster than todays slicks. That is not possible to avoid. Todays road cars have better tyres than rally cars twenty years a go. Everything naturally gets better just the men driving are still same. It's difficult sure. Maybe a more radical solution can make more - like to use just one tyre set for whole day or even whole rally.
There are three main points in question:
One is the safety measures. All that are applied are OK, but surely there can be more applied. Just as an example, the main reason of fire in most circumstances is oil from broken gearbox, differential or motor on hot exhaust pipe. There are no precautions for this, nor do the extinguishing systems send any liquid there.
The second has to do with speeds. Modern rally cars move at a pace no average person can handle. Even "fast operating" persons have difficulty operating in the pace of a Saxo A6, not to mention the extraordinary pace of a S2000. One of the main reasons that pace has increased so much is the asphalt tyres. To my opinion it is mandatory that grip gets reduced and that tyres become more progressive and with much higher maximum slip angle than the 2 or 3 degrees that have now. For those that regard it more dangerous, I say that I do not have any problem driving my A6 on Toyos R1R instead of my rally Michelins and Dunlops. In fact, I find it safer and more fun. Of course the car is slower, but it is also more progressive and friendly and if something bad happens, it will happen with about 5-15 kmh less.
The third has to do with the organisers and the safety measures they take about dangerous points. Breen's accident could have been avoided if the organiser had observed that the road banner was wrongly made and had done something about it. This cannot happen in a large scale, but surely there are few points in every rally that are very easily spotted as extremely dangerous. For example, just yesterday I was driving through the Acropolis SS Drosohori and I saw the points that, after FIA drivers demand, the organiser has put road banners. There not many points, just the ones that the banner is absolutely necessary. But this can save a life.

Everybody can sit rather immediatelly into S2k car. Isn't it also the reason of crashes and tragedies? Rally allow to skip any steps and drive anything your want, only because you have money.
Shortly, I'd like to see rally more like to boxing. I beleive nobody will go to fight Klichko even he is billionere. You must do a lot of step by steps, achieve next level and then only to drive on faster machinery.

Every fatal accident has his specifics. I think to the belgian guys who lost their life in their last race, when they rent an Evo. So - uranium - thats right. Everybody has possibility to go with big and fast cars without experience. Step by step could be useful, but I also remember fatal accidents in past with Fiat Cinquecento, here in Austria, 14 years ago. No chance to get out of the damaged cars, and it was class A5. Small cars have a big risk, also with low power. Two accidents that year, both driver and codriver died.
The specific problem in Italy past weekend was, first it was night, and there is a big discuss now in Italy, because drivers behind didnt helped. It was night, and they thought drivers were out of car. Also the car was not really on the road, so they didnt seen it. The fire comes not immediately, it comes 4-5 minutes after the crash, but driver and codriver were injured and cannot go out for theirself. Also the bad position of the car after the crash didnt allowed to go out very fast.
I agree, the possibility to take a seat in an high tech rallye car right out from the driving school should get banned!Quote:

Rallying will allways be a risky and dangerous sport, I don´t think there is a specific reason why this year so many tragic accidents happened so far, I really hope it was the last deadly rally accident for a long time now.

Next weekend rally Alpi Orientali (this year is valid for TRA and not for CIR)-it is 99% sure, that Luca Rossetti will attend this rally (it is his home rallye) with his Fabia S2000. On the other hand, no Felice Re, as he won all races in TRA this season...At least hope for his son Alesandro with DS3R3T.
If Luca comes, he will give some lessons to WRC drivers (Porro, DeCecco, Fontana).....It will be also a nice comparison for Alex Humar, who is unbeatable this year in Slovenia (the race is valid for Slovenian championship) as both are in the same cars.

Few sentences over Rally Alpi Orientali-I was yesterday whole day spectating it and I managed to see four yesterday's stages (out of six). First to the overal winner: Paolo Porro-he was already from the spectating clearly the fastest, very nice lines, smooth, Focus WRC has amazing grip....Luca Rosseti-nothing to add to one of the best world rally driver, reasonably the fastest driver in S2000 class. There were also others, who impressed me: Crungola, Martinis, Re, DeLuna. I was also positively impressed over Megan N4 performance, the car is very loud and has huge torque, somethimes to much....
One word for our Slovenian drivers: it is clearly that they are not used to drive on the surface, which has so much grip. They still drive rough, breaking to much, the lines were not ideal, as that they do not trust to the grip. Therefore our driver Humar had no chance against L.Rossetti. But at the end-fourth place for him is a very good result.
Surprise !!!! Next week Robert Kubica will run the Rally San Martino di Castrozza, counting for CIR and TRA... :eek: :eek:
He will run in a Subaru Impreza WRC in the TRA part ;)
Looks like it is official, Robert will start in short rally Ronde Gomitolo di Lana with Impreza S12.
It's actually Impreza S12B, run by Belgian First Motorsport. The start in Sunday's Ronde Gomitolo di Lana will be a preparation for the following weekend's Rallye San Martino di Castrozza.
