FOr the life of me I just didn't think it looked like Foyt at first glance. :p :
A home run!! :D
you've got it... It is funny - in the original it is clearly Foyt - but the posted version just is not quite as clear....
Your turn....
Yep, that coupled with the fact that there was another #10 Dean Van Lines car a couple of years later led to my mistake. In those days, you didn't keep your # from year to year.Quote:

Phoenix has it! I knew it would be easy(although if someone jumped in with a Johnny Rutherford, I would not have been surprised.), but I thought it was just such a neat shot.
Thanks AM :)Quote:

Vow
It is Bill Finley built Eagle replica driven by Chuck Ciprich randomly in 1983 with stock-block Chevy power. Is it Pocono? Very rare image.
You are Correct. :up:Quote:

great photo!
why would someone build a copy an only moderately successful car (that was readily available on the market for probably less than it cost Finely to build his own)?
I wonder if the Zephyr engine ever saw this car?? :D
BTW this car called Finley still exist and complitely restored as it was in 1983.Quote:

Phoenix has it.
As I am sure many of you know, Greg Weld passed away suddenly last week. A few weeks before this photo, he started this car at Milwaukee, and avoided a first lap wreck that eliminated 10 cars. In the ensuing red flag, teammate Art Pollard (who had been eliminated) took over the car and carried it to victory lane, making Greg a co-winner of sorts, although he only drove 1 lap. Regardless, that same summer, Greg won 4 consecutive pole positions on the mile dirt tracks.
An excellent dirt driver, He won the Knoxville Nationals at 19, was runner-up to Johnny Rutherford in the USAC sprints as a rookie in 1965, and USAC Sprint champion in 1967.
He retired at a relatively young 30. The story goes, he was complaining to his dad that he couldn't get decent quality wheels, so his dad said, "Why don't you build your own?" He did and it developed into Weld Racing Wheels. He retired to concentrate on his business.
Thoughts and prayers to his family.
You're up next Phoenix.
AM that was a Great Photo.
I have the a photo of the 57 car at Milwaukee with Art Pollard driving it which is also a cool photo. I believe that the Milwaukee win with Greg Weld/Art Pollard was the last shared win in Indycar racing. It's not something you can do today with fitted seats for the drivers. They can change them in the car but it would take alot of time to do and go down several laps.
New Photo coming up.

I really am not sure - but the engine does not quite look like an Offy and the tires seem like wider 1963ish but not quite 1964 wide.... Funky "wall" like a movie set or photo shoot.....

Bob, Any chance you can give us some direction on this one since it is clearly not an Indycar or Champcar. As far as I am concerned an OT car is ok once in a while, especially if it has some connection to the general "Indycar" lineage/heritage....
I am guessing this is some sort of supermodified - perhaps a Tipke -otherwise I know very little about that scene....
Start looking on the east side of the country
The car ran among other RE cars driven by gents who did or tried to run at Indy.Quote:

I have been looking around and am going to guess this is Oswego - but cannot nail down anything else at the moment.... The pictures I have been finding don't really seem to fit this car - they go from pretty back-yard looking to fancy front engine machines pretty quickly..... this looks liek a well finished rear engine machine - more modern but it seems like they have been banned for quite a while.....
Oswego it is, and if you find the driver you will also get the car builder info, but it is not the driver. (there were several variations of this car.)Quote:
