Well, let's begin. France has been last in the group stage for the second big tournament in a row! They have certainly a lot to think about this massive low. As I felt, another European giant fell. Italy showed signs of attack at times, but those were too few and far between. Both finalists of the 2006 WC finishing last in the group stage - amazing!
England somehow sneaked through the group stage and even found some decent attack in the 1/8-finals, which had been missing before, but as life has constantly proven in football - it would be a surprise if England actually achieved something instead of their usual nothing. "Defence" in the game against Germany is not really that can be called a defence. England has their own ways of dropping out - sometimes with penalty shootouts, sometimes uncounted goals contribute (like in '98 against Argentina), but what is always sure - they do drop out.
Germany vs Argentina (provided the game ends as expected) - a repeat from 2006 quarterfinal. Germany has had a few iffy moments and also against England fell a bit asleep at one moment. In the future this needs to be avoided as Argentina would certainly be a tougher rival.
I liked the way Japan sneaked through the group stage. What an efficiency! Both Cameroon and Denmark seemed more active against them, but the Japanese nicely managed to capitalize on opportunities. Better than those teams, who bomb 100 shots to nowhere.
I'm tired of silly refs and stupid FIFA
Another crap decision by a referee (Rosetti again), this World Cup will be remembered for all these mistakes made by them...and I blame FIFA for that  Mexico played very well and don't deserve to be down 2-0 :(
But even after watching the super-slow replays in the Italy game I was still not sure if the ball was over the line or if goal for 2-2 was off-side :pQuote:

as Daniele de Rossi went down in the area after the slightest of shirt pulls from Ipswich defender Tommy Smith.
The Kiwis complained about the decision but Iaquinta stepped up to convert from the spot, much to Italian relief.
Had the result not been decided by a dodgy penalty, New Zeland would have gone through to the Round of 16... and then been smashed.
Five from five. Can I collect my free prize now?Quote:
